In particular, as there is relatively little public information available about one defendant identified as Korean (Mr. Lee) compared to the others, some overseas internet users are posting messages directly asking Korean netizens for assistance. One user posted a message urging Koreans to "find one of their own," while another wrote, "I leave it to Korean netizens." There was a flurry of comments specifically highlighting the investigative prowess of Korean internet users and expressing hope that they would uncover the identity of the individual, identified as Mr. Lee. The incident came to light after a female Cornell University student, identified as "A," alleged that she had been SA'ed by seven male students at the "Chi Phi" fraternity house on campus in October 2024. She was 20 years old at the time. According to A's account, she was SA'ed while incapacitated after consuming alcohol and drugs provided by fraternity members. Although she reported the incident to the police about three weeks later, prosecutors at the time did not pursue criminal charges. A dropped out of school following the incident. However, the victim's legal representative stated that of the seven males identified as perpetrators, only two were expelled, while the others received lighter disciplinary measures such as suspension or the assignment of an essay.
