David Flippo’s 2008 Relieving from Duty

According to multiple reports, David Flippo was removed from his role as an aircraft maintenance squadron commander at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska in 2008.

Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Steven Lawlor, who was the maintenance group commander at the time, told the Reno Gazette Journal that he had been brought in to replace the previous group commander and that Flippo was a squadron commander under him. Lawlor said he “relieved him shortly thereafter for loss of confidence in his ability to command”

The Reno Gazette Journal confirmed Lawlor’s account with the major who was hired to fill Flippo’s position. Lawlor did not provide further details on the specific incidents that led to the decision, but the statement was made in the context of Flippo’s ongoing political and military record scrutiny

This removal is separate from other controversies involving Flippo, including recent allegations that he falsely claimed to have earned a Bronze Star “for valor” in multiple campaign materials, and that he was also fired from a financial institution job for violating company policies

In summary, Flippo’s 2008 relieving from duty was officially attributed by his superior to a loss of confidence in his command ability, as confirmed by the senior officer who reported to him at the time
