Spancilhill is in County Clare, Ireland, near Ennis. Michael Considine (1850 -1873) was born in Spancilhill, migrated to the US in 1870, and died at age 23. He wrote this song as a poem for his hometown and later it was set to music. #irishballads #irishmusic #spancilhill

Mule Skinner Blues, written by Jimmie Rodgers as Blue Yodel No. 8. My father used to sing this song for us when we were kids and we just loved it! Dad would make funny faces when he yodeled and my sister and I would always get the giggles. #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #folkmusic #muleskinner

"I've Endured" is a favorite song by Ola Belle Reed, who was a singer-songwriter-banjoist from Ashe County North Carolina. One of Appalachia's best. #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #folkmusic

Devilish Mary is a good old song about courting and marital bliss. The age-old question is who is entitled to "wear the britches" and who is not so entitled. Unfortunately the couple in this song got in a hurry and did not settle that. #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #folkmusic #pamelajomusic

The cicadas sang along with me on this one. I believe they like the banjo! "I'll Twine Mid The Ringlets," was published in 1860. Lyrics by Maud Irving and music by J. P. Webster. Sometimes played as a tune and called "The Wildwood Flower." #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #folkmusic

I wrote this song years ago for my grandmother, Mary Clyde Walker Hatley. She was born in 1902 and she and my grandfather helped raise us kids on the little family farm in rural north Alabama. Mama Hatley had the most beautiful crystal clear blue eyes. #singersongwriter #folkmusic #appalachianmusic

"Waterbound" is an old fiddle tune usually played in the key of A. Here it is with lyrics played in the key of C with banjo in open C tuning (gCGCE). Still too rainy here in Florida to play outside...and also mosquitos, dengue fever, and love bugs! #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #folkmusic

"I'll Fly Away," a staple in the old-time singings at the Baptist church where I grew up in Alabama. My Dad was choir director and he and mom would sing this song together. Y'all let me know if you have any song requests! #clawhammerbanjo #clawhammer #deeringbanjos #appalachianmusic #gospelmusic

Julianne Johnson and Angeline The Baker, played here on the Deering Vega Longneck with no capo in double A tuning (eAEAB). I love the low resonate tones on this banjo. #clawhammer #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #oldtimemusic #deeringbanjos

Raleigh and Spenser. I love this song on my Deering Vega Longneck banjo. It has such a deep resonate sound with the matte black head, even when it's capoed up to fret 7 here! #clawhammer #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #deeringbanjos #longneck

"Cindy" is a song our grandmother used to sing to my sister and me when we were little girls growing up on the farm in Alabama. As a kid I took the lyrics literally and thought they were so silly. #clawhammer #clawhammerbanjo #appalachianmusic #folkmusic

When I was a little kid growing up on the farm in Alabama my grandmother would take my sister and me to the chicken lot to feed the chickens and gather their eggs. Here's a song for the chickens!

Florida Moon is a beautiful song written by Charley Groth, a great Florida musician and singer-songwriter who toured the world for many years with his music. I sang a chorus of this song for the beautiful full moon and recent lunar eclipse.

My friends recently removed a large tree from their yard. Now all these mushrooms are growing where the tree was. I think the mushrooms miss their tree.
