I've been chuckling this morning at @evilevehall.bsky.social's A NOVEL MURDER & publishing isn't ready! Described as an 'eviscerating portrait of modern publishing ... Rarely will the industry feel so seen. A wicked, wicked book’ by @vaseemkhanuk.bsky.social 😈🗡️📖 www.amazon.co.uk/Novel-Murder...

A Starling murmuration, thousands of birds moving as one. A moment of wonder, a feeling of connection. What does it make you feel? #ThoughtfulThursday 💌

Trying to build up my Blue Sky feed into what my Twitter feed used to be... Does anyone have recommendations of some great accounts they follow? Doesn't even need to be book related but humour/good news/people being nerdily passionate about things all appreciated!

Happy to announce that my adult fantasy novels are now repped by @palindrometodd.bsky.social!After all I’ve been through in this industry, it’s lovely to have an agent whose vision & faith make me excited to dive back in & fight for my gaysian characters 🏳️‍🌈🥳 Can’t wait to see what we do together!

Which UK fiction editors love an RPG? TTRPG or otherwise? Wave at me if you love things like Zelda, Final Fantasy, D&D or even some cosy farming sims. I feel like there's a load of us out there, but I need the fellow nerds to reveal themselves 🤓⚔️

That's the thing, totally baffled as to what the goal was! I do hope the editors who are on the list get to use it for their benefit, but baffling from the bookseller!

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

Also just wild in an industry with such high levels of burn out ... Let's not add to the immense pressure everyone is already under, or deepen those divides between editorial and 'everyone else'

140

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

God, isn't this exhausting? We're all so tired! Not only is the criteria SO odd (prizes skew towards literary fiction) but this doesn't reflect many books bringing in so much money to the industry. But an editor is so much more than this... As is the whole teams behind these successes.

I love this book sooooo much. It's such a fantastic audiobook, and argh. The joy and cosiness and romance 💖

This is such a great point! All my authors, please print this and put it wherever you write 🩷 Take the pressure off yourselves for everything to be perfect. It's what keeps structural editors, copyeditors and proofreaders in jobs!

This makes sense as to why you've achieved so much! You have more hours in your day!! But I'm sorry to hear you've always struggled with sleep... I don't know how you're still coherent. I'm finding it rough! These are so useful, thank you. Taking myself to Boots tomorrow!! X

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

Oh that's such a great idea. I have a weighted blanket and tend to use it when I'm cocooning on the sofa, but to sleep is a great idea. Will also give the magnesium a go!! Thanks C, you're a star X

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

Ah interesting! I have, and in the past the Headspace app was great for winding down for sleep, but it's not doing it at the moment 😬

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

I didn't know those existed!! Okay this is a great solution if it persists, thank you! So pleased yours is getting better for you & it's working

110

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

Ooooh okay great! I'll go to boots. I felt a ridiculous need to be able to point to something and say 'see? I am sleeping badly!' but you're right... I can tell that myself!

110

Hannah @palindrometodd.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

I only recently started using it but can definitely feel myself getting too obsessed with my sleep score... This is great advice! Thank you

Non-book related advice please! Having a bout of insomnia & can't handle being a zombie for any longer SO, any tips? I've tried: - no caffeine - baths before bed - no phone before bed - melatonin - Kalms The main issue is staying asleep & entering deep sleep. My fitbit is concerned...

"New password cannot be the same as old password" ...

A close-up of a Starling with an unmistakable look of exasperation—its brow furrowed as if in deep annoyance, dark eyes fixed in a stare at the camera that says, "Really?" Its speckled plumage and slight shimmer of green and purple only add to its dramatic flair.

This bird captures perfectly the 'are you serious?' moment of reading, "New password cannot be the same as old password."

The graphic simplifies a 10 year journey(!) but the point is that your route can be wibbly wobbly, but you'll end up where you're meant to be. In the meantime I also ran a MH charity for young adults, went freelance as an editor & almost left the industry. It's been a wild ride ☺️

Hi! My name is Hannah & I'm a literary agent for commercial fiction. It's Working In Publishing week and my top advice is to think outside the box & to hold the friends you make close! The people of publishing (editors, agents, authors) are the best bit... Even more so than the books!

This graphic explains my route to publishing. I went to uni & did publishing (not necessary but the overview of the industry and the people I met were so valuable). I then got an internship at Bookouture which was then a teeny tiny digi-first publisher, but is now a major division of Hachette. I went into editorial and worked at Canelo, harper Collins, head of Zeus and more. I loved editorial but working in-house wasn't for me. I then got approached about a job as a commercial fiction agent, which was my dream! The people you meet are so key. The text is surrounded by images of key stages of my career and people I've met!

I will never get tired of this view. And they say London is grey!

A view across treetops that are a riot of autumnal colours in the foreground. Behind it you have the skyline of london and can see the sky scrapers of the city, Wembley stadium to the left and the Battersea power station too. The sky is a gradient of blue and has just a smattering of white clouds.

A day made up of all my favourite things: Natural History Museum, theater trip, visit to Gosh! Comics & lots of time with my dad 💖 Very glad the big nerd raised me to be just the same way.

The view in London's Natural History Museum, across the Hintze hall from the giant sequoia. You can see the sun coming through the windows in the ceiling and lighting up Hope, the skeleton of the blue whale that hangs from the roof

A photo of the Harold Pinter theater with posters showing David Tennant as Macbeth. It was very good & super interesting audio set up ... We all had to wear headphones throughout (or connect to the audio loop system). Really recommend!
