Why did C4 plants march southward across East Asia as the climate cooled across the Neogene? Our new paper: the westerly jet shifted, summer rains followed, and so did the ecosystems. 7 Myr of loess records tell the story. doi.org/10.1038/s414... @natcomms.nature.com

Little coverage of the two big new Nature papers using the Allan Hills blue ice, showing that CO2 may not have been the primary driver of the Mid-Pleistocene Transition. This is a super interesting debate about a fundamental process of the past climate, if you haven't covered it before.

Our new study is out in @natcomms.nature.com! We present a glacial CO₂ reconstruction from the Chinese Loess Plateau over the past 2.6 million years and explore what it reveals about climate sensitivity during the Pleistocene. 🔗 rdcu.be/ewIfh

Land snail shells are widely used to reconstruct past rainfall δ¹⁸O. But what if snails aren't just drinking rain? 🌧️🐌 I tested this using isotope modeling—and dew plays a much bigger role than we thought. 📄https://doi.org/10.1016/j.chemgeo.2025.122953 #Paleoclimate #StableIsotopes

I am pleased to share this work showing that atmospheric vapor can be directly utilized by clay-rich vertisols with potential implications towards drought mitigation.

Today, as the Trump administration issued mass layoffs to NOAA scientists, its worth remembering Syukuro Manabe, whose groundbreaking climate models, presented to the Senate in 1985, predicted the very changes we now face. Attacks on science threaten our future. youtu.be/jGXjkkJ8yZg?...
