Proof AI isn’t anywhere close to consciousness: Grandfather passed away this AM. I called his podiatrist to cancel an upcoming appointment. Got an AI “representative”. The AI representative repeatedly asked me for “the patient’s phone number” even after I stated he is deceased.

Have reached the stage of having a cat (2.5 months) where the cat is getting brave and exploring the house. Problem is I keep losing the cat and I’m just praying I find her before the dog does. (Dog is not used to Explorer Kitty yet. Dog is used to Basement Kitty.)

This whole thread is great, and I’ll add the industry underestimates the effort and willingness to maintain tasks offloaded to AI. They break! They stop working because one or many inputs change, etc. People would rather maintain workflows than the abstraction on that workflow.

Ginger joined us two months ago. Couldn’t figure out why she stopped eating last couple weeks. Turns out she wants company/an audience. Unless it’s a box of treats, which she’ll knock over in the middle of the night and fight until it spills its contents.

Today is my late grandmother’s birthday. The first without her. In 2001, she booked a White House tour to celebrate. Having not turned on the television that day, she and my grandfather showed up but couldn’t find a tour guide (obvs). So they gave themselves a tour of the grounds AND building.

Someone today asked how 9/11 affected us. Well, the gov became very concerned w/ hazmat. They sent my dad, a small-town firefighter, to extensive hazmat training. Then he developed a training program for area departments. The Feds recruited from that program (Dad declined).

I actually can’t share the MOST unhinged thing, but it’s THAT bad. But a doctor told me, “You’re not neurodivergent. You just have anxiety and a learning disability.” The anxiety meds did not help. But the ADHD meds from a doctor who took me seriously did significantly reduce my anxiety.

Just saw someone suggest the answer to “AI layoffs” is to vibe code an app you can sell to people. The whole point of vibe-coded apps is that your potential customer never has to pay you. They can build it themselves.

When I work with movement leaders I always say - you are not the acceptable sacrifice for the good of the movement.
