Supreme court to hear case challenging Trump’s immigration detention policy
Court will review practice of indefinite detention for undocumented immigrants living in the US The US supreme court agreed on Thursday to take up a case challenging the Trump administration’s practice of indefinite detention for undocumented immigrants living in the US and awaiting deportation proceedings. At the center of the immigration case is a dispute over Donald Trump’s reinterpretation of a longstanding policy that has led to a huge surge in the number of migrants held in detention centers. 2/ Taking any claims by these publications at face value is, frankly, bonkers (I use the term advisedly). Here’s what the party’s guide to inclusive language actually says. Most of the advice in it seems pretty sensible and to be drawn from organisations that represent…
Avoid gendered job titles and modifiers
Avoid descriptions such as: “lady doctor” or “female politician” (unless gender is directly relevant). These can imply that a particular gender is the default. Use gender-neutral terms wherever possible.

Avoid language which is harmful to people with mental health conditions
Avoid describing people as “mental,” “a nutter,” or “a lunatic.” While these terms are sometimes used in everyday language, they can reinforce negative stereotypes and stigma about mental health.

Use gender-neutral language
Where possible, use: “chair” instead of “chairman” “police officer” instead of “policeman” “firefighter” instead of “fireman”, “parents and carers” instead of mothers and fathers

1/ I’m not a fan of zealous language policing, but when the Telegraph, Spectator, Express etc. claim that the “Orwellian” Green Party is “banning” words like “father” & “mother”, I do object to this flagrant abuse of words like “ban” & “Orwellian”.

It includes interviews with 24 Israeli military or intelligence soldiers and officers who outlined the AI-powered targeting systems used to bombard Gaza, resulting in the mass killing of Palestinian civilians. Diana’s ‘revenge dress’, worn when Charles revealed infidelity, up for auction
Christina Stambolian dress from 1994 has defined a whole category of fashion and is expected to fetch up to £220,000 The dress that Diana, Princess of Wales wore one September evening in 1994 would have been memorable for its design alone – black, fitted, off-the-shoulder, skintight and short. However, it has another distinction, of defining a whole category of fashion – what has since become known as “revenge dressing”. Worn by Diana the same night Charles would reveal his infidelity on TV, the dress was quickly labelled “the revenge dress” by the media. It has its own Wikipedia page, with the same title.
