Every table at the event this weekend had a stack of blank cards for quick token creation. People left a ton of beauties behind, but these are my favorites!

Was trying to do a detailed write up on @packonepickonela.bsky.social, but the thread disappeared while I was tab flipping, lol. Instead, here are the pics of the decks I made/largely lost with, lol. (It was a fun weekend, but man, I have a lot to learn still about drafting cubes other than mine!)

Went to a cube event in LA this weekend! Here’s what I built (feat. playmat from Lucky Paper Radio/ @stitcherssupply.bsky.social) Vintage Cube: This was my speedy Grixis artifacts deck. Not quite perfect, but very explosive and fun to play. 2-1. Lost to Boros aggro.

My coverage from Minneapolis for @rollingstone.com is live. I spent the latter part of last week and some of the weekend watching as the city's people came together to figure out how to honor an innocent woman who shouldn't have died while figuring out how to protect itself from what's coming.

A Headline: Minneapolis is in morning. It's also very very pissed off
Subhed: In the hours after an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, the city came together and found a difficult balance of grief and rage

Not even 24 hours after Good’s death, speculation had erupted about what was about to happen in Minneapolis. Would the grieving city do things the “right” way, interpreted by most to mean the way that causes the least harm to property, or would this be a repeat of the painful George Floyd protests in 2020 that caused over $500 million in damages and saw widespread instances of police brutality against protestors and journalists alike? In a country that so often resists grief, the push and pull of sorrow and outrage is one that protestors on Portland Ave would struggle with in the days to come.

“This woman was out here being a neighbor, trying to help people out,” Linnay says, as other activists take over her job of redirecting traffic while we speak. “She was taken from us the way that ICE is trying to take all our neighbors. If we just sit here and allow things to happen like this, what does that say about us?”

Welcome commander players. I will explain the mulligan rule to you as many times as you need with no shame at all.

Fully ruined the song Mama Mia for myself by singing it as "Stuart Little, You're My Smallest Friend" too many times

The more people that turn up and show Wizards that supporting trans people is popular, the better. Make it inescapably clear to them who their players are and what you care about.

Been doing a Rotisserie draft online for the past couple weeks and it’s a lot of fun! If an event wanted to host one of these for a Cube and then you get paired up and play three rounds, is that something folks would be into?

Please join us in welcoming our next powerhouse artist -- Winona Nelson (@winonanelson.com)! Winona has created art for over 150 unique Magic cards, and we're extremely excited for the opportunity to host her at Shoebox! ✨

A grahpic with a colorful border and a photo of artist Winona Nelson. The text reads: Artist Announcement, Winona Nelson.
Winona Nelson is queer and Two-Spirit artist, and is a member of the Leech Lake Band of Minnesota Ojibwe.
Since she was a child, she felt an acute absence of pop culture depictions of people who look, dress, or act like her, so Winona has always been motivated to create empowering representations of women and people from minority backgrounds - especially Indigenous and LGBTQ2SIA+ characters.
There are three Magic the Gathering cards depicted below, including Alesha Who Smiles At Death, Tymna the Weaver, and Azusa Lost But Seeking. Shoebox, St Paul Minnesota. March 13-15. shoebox.gg

I’m not going to post a picture of Fleem to get you all to try and come to this event. I’m above that. (For now, anyway, we’ll see what happens when we get close to the date.)
