Man RSC is amazing. The interplay you can have between client and server - to reduce resource usage on the server is awesome In my real world example I lazily convert markdown into html based on if it's visible or not; doing this in rsc is a cinch.

What impressed me was prioritizing economic justice at the framework level. That manifests in minimal code sent to the client hosted on a Cloudflare edge worker for free; reducing costs for website owners and customers. No $20/mo hosting lock-in scheme. Wish #webcomponents had an SDK like this...

I think one of the reasons React stuck with me is because it taught me how to think. Not just about components, but about breaking problems down. Same goes for request/response. It's grounding. RedwoodSDK allows you to co-locate entire sections of your web-app. You to think like the web works!

I was lucky. When I started, big tech hadn’t abstracted everything yet. We learned the fundamentals because that’s all there was. Today, you’re surrounded by tools that hide the basics behind glossy UIs and certifications. Before you spend years learning one company’s abstraction, ask yourself:

React isn't just a UI library. The first time it clicked, it rewired how I thought about software. It became a tool for thought. Just like the request and response cycle is more than a protocol, It's a mental model. A way to orient yourself in the chaos of vibe programming.

Cloudflare bindings are the only way I want to integrate services. The most annoying part in building software is gluing 10's of different APIs together.

I've done a lot of therapy in the past two years and lately have found myself talking to ChatGPT about "feelings." It helps me think in a pleasant space, which I then rehash with my therapist. I know that it's a trick and not a substitute for a pro, but it helps! Suprized by how good it is.

The same thing happened in South Africa. We had a phrase for it. We called it "state capture:" > State capture is a type of systemic political corruption in which private interests significantly influence a state's decision-making processes to their own advantage.

Personal software is software that you build exclusively for you, your family, your friends, or community. The cost (time, motivation, experience) for building it is reduced due to AI in the loop, and therefore does not require a profit motive. It simply solves a problem. The future it bright.

I'm trying to make links typesafe in RWJS, but I don't want to have to explicitly name all your routes, for now I've settled on a helper where you enter all the strings that your project uses, which returns a typesafe `link` helper. I am trying to avoid code or type generation.
import { defineLinks } from "@rr/links";

export const link = defineLinks([
  '/',

  '/user/login',
  '/user/logout',
  '/user/auth',

  '/invoice/list',
  '/invoice/:id',
  '/invoice/:id/upload',
  '/invoice/logos',
])

link('/invoice/:id/upload', { id: 1 }) //  ⏎ '/invoice/1/upload'

I'm really happy with the alpha version of the router we've built for Redwood. It allows you to return either a JSX component or a `Response` object in the same definition. It based off of React Router V7's API.

I'm finally getting back to the point in software development where it's keeping me up at night. I stopped programming when I was the CEO of Snaplet and it was my biggest mistake. I think if you're building a tool for developers, but don't code you're alienating yourself from your audience.
