Before anything reaches the museum store, excavations take place as part of the planning process. Once the digging is done, the specialists have worked their magic, the archives come to us. Our job? To care for them in perpetuity and make them accessible to everyone.

It's 220 years since the funeral of Lord Nelson in 1806. This wooden toy consists of 58 blocks that when lined up in the correct order depict the funeral procession of Lord Nelson from The Admiralty, to St Paul's Cathedral. The paper images are based on a print by John Wallis, from March 1806.

Spotted by Valerie during her work experience this Victorian medicine cabinet contains a variety of potions offering potential remedies. It is typical of what might have been found in a middle class home during the period. For further information visit www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/oxfordshire-museum.
In a display case a wooden cabinet containing draws and little hollows for bottles containing different pills and other things is visible. At the forefront is a pair of shoes and to the left is a label describing what is in the display.
