Our next, and particularly wonderful, concert is on 17 October. Amongst the many stand-out pieces we're due to perform are the Five Flower Songs by Benjamin Britten. 🧵

Inspired by the dreams and visions of Leonardo da Vinci, Eric Whitacre's 'Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine' is a modern classic. The text, written by Charles Anthony Silvestri, imagines Leonardo being tormented by visions of flight and falling. 🧵
A detailed sketch by Leonardo da Vinci of a mechanical wing with multiple joints and segments. The sketch includes various views and angles of the wing, showing its articulation and possible range of motion. There are several annotations and labels in a handwritten script. The drawing highlights the complexity and engineering involved in designing such a mechanical wing.
