Day 16: #bubbahotep

It's such a crazy but also at the same time a touching story.
This movie should be rediscovered again, especially for the new fans of movies & horror.

I mean a movie about an older Elvis, the King of Rock N'Roll, played by Bruce Campbell, the King & the Icon of horror & B-movies, fighting against a Mummy - I'm sold!

A prequel, Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires, has been in development hell for years.
Ron Perlman was recast as Elvis in that movie & Paul Giamatti was cast as Elvis's manager Colonel Tom Parker, but I doubt they're still on the project now...

Day 15: #fromdusktilldawn

"Two brothers stuck in a bar full of vampires & something happens to the other brother", yeah the movie Sinners ripped that part from this movie off, except From Dusk Till Dawn is a MUCH BETTER MOVIE than Sinners!

Was originally meant to be a Tales From The Crypt movie, but in the end became its own movie instead.
How a TFTC movie version would look like you should check out the pilot trailer with Joseph Pilato (Day of the Dead) as George Clooney's character Seth Gecko.

There's a sequel that was not that good or even memorable, a prequel with an interesting idea but wasn't executed that well, a TV-show remake & the 1st episode was so bad that I didn't bother watch the rest. The actors playing the Gecko Bros. in that show was very miscast & looked more like models than ruthless robbers!
There's also an unknown video game that takes place after this movie.

Day 14: #anamericanwerewolfinlondon

One of the best movies in the werewolf genre & it has the most memorable & one of the best, If not THE best werewolf transformations on film!
The transformation make-up was so great that it got make-up artist Rick Baker an Academy Award for Best Make-up (a category that was new at the time). A well deserved win!

Some people might be suprised that the movie also has some funny moments, but considering this is directed by the same guy who made Animal House & Blues Brothers it actually makes sense.

The movie got a sequel in the 90's called An American Werewolf in Paris, but that one is pretty forgettable today & there's a reason why it's forgettable...

Day 14: #anamericanwerewolfinlondon

One of the best movies in the werewolf genre & it has the most memorable & one of the best, If not THE best werewolf transformations on film!

Day 13: #extraordinarytales

A fun animated, anthology movie based on stories by Edgar Allan Poe.

Each story have different narrators like Christopher Lee, Julian Sands, Guillermo Del Toro & even an old recording of Bela Lugosi. Plus Roger Corman (who has directed a few Poe adaptations himself) does a cameo speaking voice.

Also, each story has different animation styles - The Fall of the House of Usher has a Tim Burton-esque art style, the art in The Tell-Tale Heart makes me think of Frank Miller's Sin City, The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar looks like a graphic novel coming to life & I also like that the main character's look is based on Vincent Price, The Pit & The Pendulum looks like 90's 3D graphics & The Masque of the Red Death has the style of an acrylic painting.

Day 12: #killerklownsfromouterspace

It's pretty much a parody of the 50's sci-fi horror genre & even the title is pretty spoofy.
This is a cheesy, charming & funny movie that you have to at least see once in your life & there's a reason why this movie is such a cult classic!

A sequel has been in development hell for many years and so far it's been very silent If the sequel will ever happen at all.
It actually has a plot: The main character from the 1st movie is now the town drunk, nobody believes his Killer Klowns from outer space story, the Killer Klowns return to earth & it's up to him & a couple of young street performers to save the day.

An unnecessary remake has been in the talks with Ryan Gosling producing it. I rather have the sequel than a remake!
There's also a recent multiplayer video game in the same style as the Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Halloween video game.

The 3rd & final entry in the Coffin Joe trilogy.
While the other two movies came out in the 60's, this one came out in 2008.
But apparently José Mojica Marins has been working on the 3rd movie since the 60's but it never took off because of different reasons & the making of the movie finally took off in the early 2000's.

As I mentioned earlier the Coffin Joe character has also showed up in other movies by Marins, in The Strange World of Coffin Joe the character is the host of an anthology movie & in The Bloody Exorcism of Coffin Joe the movie is more of a meta movie in the same style as Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

The first Brazillian produced horror movie & also one of the first few 60's horror movies to have blood & gore.

I would say Coffin Joe is a very underrated horror icon character & not very well known except among film nerds & hardcore horror fans.
Those long fingernails of Coffin Joe are actually real, the director, co-writer & the main lead, José Mojica Marins, was also well known for his very long fingernails & he did sometimes cut them, but for the most part they where usually long & I'm pretty sure they where still long the day Marins passed away in 2020.

There's two sequels - This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse & Embodiment of Evil.
Coffin Joe has also showed up in other movies by Marins as well.

Day 8: #thething

A perfect example of a great remake & one of the few rare examples where the remake is better than the original movie.
To me at least, some people might prefer the original, The Thing From Another World, and that one is a good movie too.

There are a few comicbook sequels & a prequel from Darkhorse Comics, a video game sequel, a planned miniseries sequel from SyFy that got cancelled, a prequel from 2010's just called The Thing (it looks bland & the CGI didn't look as great as the practical effects in John Carpenter's movie) & recent news says that John Carpenter is involved in the next Thing movie.
I don't know If it's gonna be a sequel, a reboot or another remake, but with Carpenter involved I'm a little more positive. But we'll see....

Day 7: #creepshow

The movie is heavily inspired by EC Horror Comics such as Vault of Horror, Haunt of Fear & Tales From The Crypt, which both director George A. Romero & writer Stephen King (who wrote the screenplay & has a role in the movie) were fans of.
And they really captured the feel of those comics, it's really well made & I love how they added comic panels for transitions & love the gore effects by Tom Savini!

One of my favorite movies & one of my favorite anthology movies, If you haven't seen it then go and watch it!

It got two sequels, the 2nd movie is okay & even though it has some memorable moments & is watchable, in comparison to the 1st movie it was pretty disappointing.

Before Robert Englund got cast & became forever known as Freddy Krueger, actor David Warner (Omen & Necronomicon: Book of Dead) was originally cast & there's even a picture of him doing the make-up test, but he had to drop out because of schedule issues.

No, this is NOT part of George A. Romero's Living Dead franchise, but the writer John A. Russo, who also co-wrote Night of the Living Dead, got the rights to use the phrase "Living Dead" in the title.

This is one of the best zombie movies ever, it has great gore effects, it has punk & some punk music, a dancing Linnea Quigley 😏😉, and it's overall a fun 80's horror comedy movie! 😃🙂

It got 4 sequels, the 2nd movie was not good, the 3rd movie was okay but sometimes it felt like a different movie & I have not seen 4 & 5.
They released a few years ago a teaser trailer for a new movie (I think it's either a reboot or a requel), but nothing new since. There's even a planned spinoff movie to Linnea Quigley's character Trash.

Day 4: #braindamage

The movie is pretty much an analogy & a metaphor of drug addiction.
Of course it's not 100% realistic, but the movie still does a good job showing the effects of being an addict & the movie is even based on director Frank Henenlotter's experience when he was addicted to coke (not the soda..)

Despite that it's still a fun, batshit crazy, gory body horror movie & the gore effects are awesome!

I kinda wanna see a sequel or a prequel to this movie. Why not, If Basket Case could get two sequels why not Brain Damage as well?!
It's mostly because I wanna see more of Aylmer, he's such a funny & charming parasite! Here's an interesting idea - Belial vs. Aylmer 😉😜

If you like movies about serial killers then this is a movie for you.
Joe Spinell (who also wrote the script) plays a creepy, mentally disturbed serial killer & he plays the role so well that it's without a doubt his best role.

There are also great gore effects by Tom Savini, who has a small role in the movie as well (his scene is pretty much the most well known scene from this movie 😜)

A sequel was planned where the character this time became a Mr. Rogers-esque TV host who would go after abusive parents, making the character more of an antihero (the reason for it is because Spinell was very hurt by the accusations from film critics & women saying that the movie was misogynistic & promoted senseless violence, and he wanted to make up for these criticisms with the sequel)
It would have been called Maniac 2: Mr. Robbie, they made a short promotional film, but it got cancelled after Joe Spinell passed away in 1989.

There is a remake with Elijah Wood that wasn't too bad, but it wasn't as great as the original movie.
