OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 01/10/2026im bettin this is a windows update issue💀 id be curious to see the windows event viewer logs that says why it shuts down though, its a very useful tool.. until its not. 000
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 01/10/2026If you have an AMD graphics card, theres a good chance your gpu is spiking your power supply, but this came up randomly so I doubt that only *now*. as said before, id check temps with whatever version of hwmonitor; all depends on whats happening when your computer decides to die 000
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Id check if its ram first, since people forget thats a thing that can go bad (condolences if so..) Use MemTest64 for that, run it like 5 cycles, you should get no errors. If so.. one or more of your ram sticks are bad. 200
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 01/10/2026:) ive been dealing with my girlfriends PC for the same shit for the last two years. imma have a lot to say. Next time it restarts, go to Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for the first "Critical" if its Kernel Power 41 then it was hardware, and your computer didnt have time to report. 100
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 28/09/2026yet another magic data texture I had to create RGBA8_UNorm 16x16 (z-order) 40 pixels left, all for some damn lightning 050
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 27/09/2026ah yes, first image is without the IgnoreProjector tag, second is with. I cant recall if this fucks with other things though :/ 001
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 27/09/2026All I feel like I can say without stirring some massive beef at 3am is: Since the very beginning of hearing VRCLV was becoming a thing, I feel theres something very very wrong. id honestly take arealit over vrclv personally, but I have plans to make my own simpler arealit once I have the time 010
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 27/09/2026off the top of my head, you could go nuke and add Tags { "IgnoreProjector"="True" } to your shader lol ill see what I can throw together in a bit, as im curious myself 100
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 27/09/2026most neurotypical attribute "I love you" with familiarity to partner / family level, but moreso partner than family. Existing relationships also pose strain of the world due to "you loving someone else behind my back?" most neurotypicals dont have the head pat mentality either though lol 010
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 23/09/2026My favourite method to getting better when sick as faaast as possible is to grab every blanket in the house, uncomfortably steam myself to almost dead temperatures (which viruses have a really hard time surviving in) and remember being sick is worse that being in a pool of sweat for a while. 010
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 22/09/2026ohhh my god. I might actually have a valid use to train a neural network on something. LTCs GGX approximation uses a 3x3 matrix with five variables, which they normalize one to make it four and store that in a texture. They later just use two textures, but I dont like that.. z = f(x,y).. smooth.. :O 000
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 20/09/2026juuuust in case you were curious, these are my solutions to the width, height, and centroid of the Henyey-Greenstein Phase Function. I was trying to reparameterize it into a linear transform for reasons 040
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 16/09/2026yeah, the surfaces know both their normals, world space position, and the light vertices. im thinkin about making a light mapper, but the amount of math I gotta do for thaaaatttt uuuhhh I should probably finish what ive been asked to do before I get to that lmao 020
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 16/09/2026light irradiance is actually quite easy btw, its just *rest* thats hard. 161

OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 14/09/2026ohh the half vector "normalize(lightDir + viewDir)" is the direction in which a surface normal reflects all the light from into the cameras view! Always wondered wtf the half vector was www.desmos.com/calculator/y...desmos.comLight-View Half Vector 040

OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 13/09/2026don't bake normals for a high poly mesh, and dont bake a normal map with no detail either. Disable dithering in blender before you bake to reduce the file size dramatically. In fact, evaluate if you need that texture in the first place, and compress it if so. I really need to write about this stuff 010
OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I've been trying to think of a concrete answer to this that doesn't straight up require me making an hour long video on when and when not to use static batching / gpu instancing lol 011

OwenTheProgrammer @owentheprogrammer.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I might not understand how to use this. I appreciate it! 100
