I’ve done little this past month except play single-player #videogames - I’ve completed twice as many in that time than I had in the previous 18 months. Focusing on my PS4 backlog helped, as did ignoring my post-employment woes and #gamedev struggles. I feel less anxious than I have in years.

The game I just completed, Dreamfall Chapters (2017), features a minor character who is a slimy nationalist bigot, who harps on about cleansing the homeland of magical people & undesirables & immigrants, and wants your vote to protect ‘our’ women & children. He looks uncannily like Nigel #Farage

He’s so smooth and shiny that he must’ve internalised the fleshy corruption and the pustules.

Baron Harkonnen, played with superbly camp corrupt sweaty spotty relish by Kenneth McMillan in the superior David Lynch version of Dune, squishes the cheeks of The Beast Rabban, played by Paul L Smith, who has an excellent evil laugh.

See this? I want the opposite of it. I would buy a Switch 2 if they offered it as a screenless brick you plug into a TV. Just a regular game console with a regular gamepad. Charge me £269 instead of £419 and I’ll buy all the games. I’m too old to be squinting at handhelds with fiddly controls.

I’ve had to make some very difficult choices about my personal life & career this year. I turned to #gamedev again to help with a creative outlet but I just can’t decide what to do. So I’ve been distracting myself with video games, because they are fun & cool & choices really don’t matter… Oh no.

I guess that change is only applied to those accessing the app from within the Book-burning Banana Republic of America, the alleged ‘Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave’. Here in blighted Brexitland (AKA Airstrip One) Lake Ontario is still Lake Ontario, according to Apple Maps on my iPhone.

It’s the #caturday after I officially finished my university creative tech job of 21 years, following taking voluntary severance. I have very mixed feelings. Going to spend the summer meditating, touching grass, maybe doing a little #gamedev, and chillin’ with my Emotional/Wrist Support Cat.

I’m too hot & bothered & brainfried to do any more #gamedev work today, either on my Defold game ‘scaffold‘, or some complex Roblox (ew!) stuff I’m trying to suss out for my young friend. So for #ScreenshotSaturday this is from our play yesterday - creating accidental civic art in Flashing Lights.

My scaffold for #indiegames #MadeWithDefold is coming along nicely, lots of progress made in the past 4 days. I will be sharing this with the #Defold #gamedev community, but I really recommend beginners try doing it themselves before even starting to make a game - it's a great learning experience.

As a struggling older hobbyist #gamedev I wish there were more complete tutorials and guides that focus on overall structure and flow, rather than the minutia of a specific game mechanic or genre. I want to know the best practices of building the scaffolding that any game could sit within. [1/3]

With all the recent hype about the #Backrooms movie, maybe I should resurrect my first #Godot 3D project from 2022, when It was cool the first time around. Unfortunately, I decided to wait for Godot 4, was disappointed in that, jumped to Unity, and found myself trapped in tutorial and burnout hell.

Not my #gamedev, but an assortment of creative ‘installations’ made in #HouseFlipper 2 by a young autistic adult that I mentor. I love what we get up to in various sandbox games & I love his joyful free expression (even if he does keep deleting doors trapping me in the rooms I’m cleaning up for him)
