Behind screaming ribs, the very concept of air has become something difficult to grasp.

Get up, he willed his shattered body to no avail.

“Vox! Vox, can you hear me?” A familiar voice broke through the fog clouding his mind though it sounded so far away. When he tried to respond nothing came out.

Another on his other side - just as familiar and distant. “Stay with us okay? Just- fuck”

Lost and adrift in thick haze, a large, warm hand found one of his. It was all he could do to weakly squeeze back.

Red… and Blue… so they're both fretting over me....

“Easy Vox, just… easy alright? Don’t move, it’s gonna be okay, you’re gonna be okay.” Red’s voice was steady, but he couldn’t hide the urgency and panic - sounding more like he was trying to convince himself than soothe Vox.

New voices filter through whatever cotton's been stuffed in his ears. Still though, Blue’s voice remains the loudest, Was that... anger in his voice? No… Vox could tell he was panicking too and venting his feelings on the others. He could hear Metem… The President… both trying to keep the situation in hand. It must be bad if all of them were here.

Everything still felt so fuzzy and floaty but Vox could parse out what happened. He pushed too hard and this was how his challenge to Tyrant had ended. What a shame.

The last thing that crosses his mind before his consciousness was pulled under was how Nyx was going to be so pissed at him.

His head still felt stuffed with cotton when he finally came to. As feeling trickled its way through limbs, the first thing he noticed was Red still holding his hand. Slowly he stirred and immediately drew the Hyune’s attention as he felt that warm hand squeezed his.

“Vox?” His voice was soft, tentative but still caught Blue’s attention from where he'd been pacing a hole through the floor.

The Shetona was at his other side in an instant, “You… you with us?”

Both let out a breath they seemed to have been holding as long dark lashes fluttered and familiar dual-toned eyes opened. Vox blinked up at them, still feeling like reality had suddenly crawled to a slow motion.

“Hi…” was all he could think to croak out. It made Blue laugh despite himself.

“You-” Blue sat down hard on a stool a few paces from the bed and squeezed the bridge of his nose, “don’t you fucking dare scare us like that again, got it?”

His tone was harsh, but Vox could hardly hold it against him.

“We thought we lost you.” Red was looking down at Vox’s pale hand, still held tightly in his own. “You… your heart stopped. They didn’t know if they’d be able to bring you back.”

“You’ve been out a couple days…” Blue dragged his hands down his face, “We already called your sister, she was beyond fucking pissed off. Terrifying honestly… She’s been stopping in, probably be here soon.”

Vox looked between them, squeezing Red’s hand and shakily reaching his other out to Blue, who took it in both of his immediately. “M’sorry," he apologized weakly, voice rusty with disuse.

The other Shetona heaved a heavy sigh but he still scooted his stool closer to the bed, mirroring his bro, “We know. You’re still in trouble and aren’t gunna’ be going anywhere for a while. Prez said he ain’t letting you outta here until… well, you better get comfy.”

Vox just let out a little mhmm in response. He wasn’t surprised - The President had done his level best to look out for him since the beginning.

He was so exhausted, it was getting hard to keep his eyes open but just as he was starting to doze off something colorful on one of the bedside tables caught his attention. “Blue..?” He waited until the other hummed in response before continuing, just a hint of a tease finding its way into his tired voice, “did you get flowers for my hospital room?”

“Shut up.”

“Deep Blue! Red Hot!” A reporter, probably sent by some tabloid or another to catch a post match interview, called out waving their hand above the ravenous crowd to try and catch the brothers’ attention.

Fielding questions after a match could be such a drag, but Blue couldn’t say he didn’t enjoy the attention. He flashed that signature mischievous little half-smirk of his and waved the journalist forward. “Sure, sure~ what’cha got for us?”

The reporter made a valiant attempt to shuffle through the crowd of fans, shouting to be heard over the din, “fans are noticing that the Daring Devils have been a mite less daring in their recent bouts! No one can imagine what, or who, would be capable of reining the two of you in! Care to give us the scoop on what’s got you both holding back lately?”

Fair question, honestly. They had been getting into a little less trouble lately, though he wouldn’t say they were any less daring. The brothers shared a look, Blue’s grin splitting even wider while Red’s usually flat expression also quirked up into a little grin of his own.

They knew the answer, of course they did. It was back home in their apartment, probably curled up and napping now that the match’s broadcast had ended. Not that they were at all keen on sharing the details.Their Slow, hesitated response stretched long enough the crowd's commotion fell into anticipatory silence of their answer.

He could just say it was nothing, that they’d be back up to their old stunts again in no time, let the whole thing blow over but… Blue always did love to stir the pot. “Sorry,” he drawled, holding one finger to his lips as if to shoosh the reporter, “but that’s our little secret.”

Exclamations and murmurs erupted immediately, but before anyone could fire off any follow up questions the brothers had already slipped into the safety of the fighters’ green room.

“He’s gunna be mad when he hears.” Wry grin still playing on his lips, Red didn’t even try to sound stern.

Blue couldn’t help the laugh that bubbles out of him, “totally but he’ll probably forgive me if we pick up his favorite take out on the way back. Cmon let’s go~”

Red could only shake his head with an amused snort, following behind his bro as they made their way back to the one person capable of tempering their troublemaking streak.
