What a wonderful hike around the Reservoir Trail in Victoria Park this morning! Thank you to Truro Pride Society and @hikenovascotia.bsky.social for partnering on this event. We had a lovely coffee break following our active morning hike and two lucky hikers won a Hike NS membership!

We have a 60% chance of showers or drizzle, so wear or bring a waterproof layer. It is a mild fall day - great for a pleasant hike. Layers and good grips on your shoes are probably best. See you at 10am!

Screen shot from AllTrails app for the Reservoir Trail in Truro NS - includes a photo of the reservoir through trees and states it is an easy hike, 6.3km 99m elevation gain and should take 1.5 to 2 hours in a loop

Our first Outside Pride hike was this morning. We agreed on a slightly longer route than we had planned so had a nice leisurely 5.5km walk on the Cobequid Trail in around 90 minutes. For me it was just over 8000 steps (I have little legs). Next hike planned for October 19th.

Fitbit stats over a picture of the stream with a sunburst. 1 hour 22minutes, 479 calories, 103 avg bpm heart rate, 8358 steps.

Trail on the edge of a ravine. Sunshine through the trees. Wooden guard railed fence on the right of picture.

Barriers to stop vehicles entering at the trail head. Signpost and trees. Sunshine through the trees creating "dappled shade".

Old white guy with beard in passenger seat and a golden and black dog in the back seat of a vehicle. The man is smiling, the black dog has her tongue lolling out of her mouth.

Shade in the foreground, sunshine in the distances on a gravel path. Gates and a car can be seen in the distance. Sunny day. Grass on one side and trees a little further back. Trees on the right hand side of the trail.

According to the World Health Organization, loneliness is linked to approximately 100 deaths every hour. UK charity, LGBTHero identifies loneliness as more acute in the queer community. We want to help reduce #loneliness in the #LGBTQ community and bring more #QueerJoy from being active and outside!

Why are LGBTQ+ people more likely to be lonely?

LGBTQ+ people are more likely to be lonely than cis-het people. This loneliness can stem from a variety of factors: we’re more likely to be disconnected from our families, or have problems finding other people like us who we can connect with..

LGBTQ+ people are also more likely to face discrimination due to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, which can lead to feelings of isolation and difficulties getting close to other people.

Older LGBTQ+ people may experience heightened loneliness and feelings of disconnection from a queer community that’s increasingly centered around young folks. That is, older queer folks may no longer want to go to LGBTQ+ clubs, bars, pubs, etc., but find themselves unable to find a replacement community where they can connect with their peers.
