a test pong program is now running with O3 optimizations on the new out of order revision of the open source RISC-V processor I've been working on.

Quadratic spline curve rendering on the GPU is a particularly interesting challenge. I'm approximating distance with the Newton-Raphson method which works most of the time, but breaks down with extreme curves.

This weekend I thought I might build something with HE at tree hacks but I didn't think I would figure it out in time. BUT, I somehow did it and I'm sure proud of what came out. 😊

I'm starting to port over the swamp location to the new worldgen. #gamedev #godot One of the challenges I'm going to face is trying to figure out what types of rooms a swamp should have? I'm thinking spindly with tighter corridors might be fitting?

So the new world generation now works in multiplayer! Really excited to see how play testers are going to respond to the more interesting world. #gamedev #godot The syncing is actually just sharing a single seed, and everyone generates the world from the shared seed.

Still chugging along and improving the visuals. I added some more decorations to the edge of rooms. Hopefully it adds some more interest to the visuals. #gamedev #godot

Just added edge decorations that occupy space. You can see the trees no longer horrendously overlap 😅, and I think it looks much nicer! #gamedev #godot

I'm hoping decorating the outside edge like this will add a lot more to the visuals over the previous borders which looked like this

Just got trees to start generating around the edges of the level! The current tree placement is very hacky so you can see they often overlap, which I'll try and fix tomorrow. #gamedev #godot

Using the flood fill algorithm, I can now calculate edges around my rooms to (hopefully soon) add some edge decorations. #gamedev #godot

Today I implemented edge flow field generation into my room layout tool. Using this, I will be able to decorate the outsides of rooms, and place different decorations at different distances. So for example, trees have to be at least 3 tiles from the inside. #gamedev #godot

Procedurally generating decorations works now 🥳 Every single thing you see here was procedurally generated except the player (of course) and the locations of the walls, that's hand designed by me, however all of the visuals and decorations are generated on top of that. #godot #gamedev

I want to try out a #gamedevelopment philosophy: I've been tired of managing custom resources in #godot, it feels slow. I think I'd much rather prefer just creating all of the content in code. I've started doing this with my state machine that used to be node based, but is now completely in C#
