Palestinians in Gaza are suffering from man-made “mass starvation” due to the aid blockade on the enclave, the chief of the World Health Organization warned reporters at a briefing on Wednesday.

“Parents tell us their children cry themselves to sleep from hunger,” Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. “Food distribution sites have become places of violence.”

The United Nations says more than a thousand people have been killed by Israeli forces while seeking food since late May, when a controversial new Israel- and US-backed aid group, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, began operating.

Of those, hundreds have died near GHF sites, according to the UN. The GHF was created to replace the UN’s aid role in Gaza and has been widely criticized for failing to improve conditions.

All 2.1 million people in Gaza are now food insecure. On Tuesday, Gaza’s health ministry said 900,000 children are going hungry, and 70,000 already show signs of malnutrition.

Chinese manufacturing labor isn’t just cheaper. It’s better.

In China, there are no people who are too fat to work. The workers don’t storm off midshift, never to return to their job. You don’t have people who insist on being paid in cash so that they can keep their disability payments, while they do acrobatics on the factory floor that the non-disabled workers cannot do.

Chinese workers are much less likely to physically attack each other and their manager. They don’t take 30 minute bathroom breaks on company time. They don’t often quit because their out-of-state mother of their children discovered their new job and now receives 60% of their wages as child support. They don’t disappear because they’ve gone on meth benders. And they don’t fall asleep on a box midshift because their pay from yesterday got converted into pills.

And they can do their times tables. To manufacture, you need to be able to consistently and accurately multiply 7 times 9 and read in English, and a disturbingly large portion of the American workforce cannot do that.

Der rheinland-pfälzische Ministerpräsident, Alexander Schweitzer, mahnt nach dem mutmaßlichen Anschlag in München zur Zusammenarbeit. "Wir brauchen einen Konsens in Deutschland. Die demokratische Mitte muss zusammenarbeiten - besser als bisher", sagte er im ARD-Brennpunkt.

Schweitzer führte weiter aus: "Ich glaube, dass wir besser werden müssen (...) bei der Integration derer, die hier bleiben können. Aber auch besser werden müssen bei der Rückführung derer, die nicht hier bleiben können."
