Penicillin-resistant Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis and the association with penicillin-binding protein mutations: a population genotypic and phenotypic study | Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy
Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis (SDSE, commonly referred to as Group C/G Streptococcus) is increasingly recognized as a cause of serious human disease (1). SDSE is closely related to Streptococcus pyogenes with overlapping disease manifestations (1, 2). Incidence of invasive SDSE disease is comparable or even exceeds that of S. pyogenes in some countries, but surveillance lags behind that of its more well-studied relative (2–4).
