No capitalist would say this unless they were forced to. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders. I also believe it's despicable, but it's ridiculous to expect they'd behave differently under capitalism. Maybe you should join DSA, Senator.

Also I'm not seeing much difference in your definitions other than we don't really use insurance and pay a lot more for it.

Haha, because the school system, financial system, transportation system, utilities, healthcare, policing, workers rights, civil rights, and nation defense were all much better before the federal government got involved.

I live in New Orleans, and my rates tripled after my first year here. Then up another 70% and double digit increases every year following.

The fact that insurance companies are making billions of dollars in profit while costs are going up tells you exactly why this is happening. There just needs to be better regulation at the federal level. Home insurance should be treated a lot like a utility.

Tesla earned $2.3 billion in the United States in 2024. You'd think it paid a lot in taxes, right? Well it paid precisely $0 in federal income taxes last year. You want waste and fraud? Look at what some big corporations and the rich are getting away with.

This brings Tesla’s average tax rate over the past three years to 0.4 percent.

Do you know how popular a politician would become right now if elons goons tried to arrest them? Also, how big of a news story that would be? Plus it would force the issue of it's legality. I call that a win win win.

Welcome to America LLC The guy who makes sure people get paid is now a gun for hire, rather than a neutral party. Hope Musk doesn't tell him to stop any subsidy payments Rivian. Or maybe starve the EPA and FAA so he can do whatever he wants at SpaceX. He wouldn't do that? Right?

The Treasury Department will make Tom Krause, a Silicon Valley executive with ties to DOGE, the head of the department that oversees the nation’s powerful payment systems after ousting the career civil servant who previously held the post.

Also, such a weird position. To think someone would become trans so they could dunk on women. Don't know what type of person would think that way. But maybe I just met one.

And I will say no matter your position the NCAA is obviously cowards Either cowards for letting trans athletes play in the first place, or cowards for now ripping that opportunity away from them.

Neither one of us are going to convince the other here. But you should look into what trans athletes have to do to compete So many hormone blockers.

I'm hopeful. But you're right, lots of hurdles to come. Still, encouraging that the mayor had the political courage to support it. I went to highschool in that area, and I can tell you, this ain't gonna be popular in that crowd.

Jeff Smith @ouijeff.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Cowardly. But I don't really expect much from the NCAA. They just do what benefits their pocket books. The way the current admin is going, they probably would have been constantly sued.

Way to go Oklahoma. Not often I can be proud of anything you're doing. But those people suffered, and they deserve to be made whole (to the extent the government is able)

Just more faces for the leopards. I don't think these red states realize they are the ones being subsidized. But they're about to notice. Mid west. You're next. Farmers are going to take it in the teeth with the cancellation of USAID.

I wonder how underhanded the language in that email is going to be? "Sub: Judge blocks Trump from Making America Great Again" Body: Some dumb Obama judge, soon to be deported, won't let me give you severance. But I'll drain the swamp in no time" Share when (if) you get it please!

It's almost like it doesn't matter what someone believes before they enter Trump world... Like we should oppose ANY Trump agenda. Oppose ANY Trump nominee, because their principles go out the window once confirmed. Embrace partisanship fully. These are not normal times. Be an opposition party

I think it will be good to throw some bombs at this presser, Senator. Tell them how you will hold up every single piece of legislation that isn't blatantly left leaning Stall everything in committees. File so many lawsuits they won't be able to breathe under the weight of the paper

These are not normal times. Bipartisanship cannot exist right now. They only understand threats. They will do the maximum amount that they are able to do. DO NOT LET THEM It's time to give in to partisanship, fully You don't convince Nazis by arguing with them, you convince Nazis by beating them

This is the way. Use humor to make more points. It's more convincing to most people. Some will grudgingly say "That was a good one" If you come at them more directly they'll just dig in. Good job Senator.

Is anyone old enough to remember when this level of government mismanagement would have been front page news? And Congress would have held hearings to try to figure out what was going on?

No. There is a solid difference. These people are driven by empathy. Maga voters are driven by selfishness. Many maga voters are completely okay with bad shit happening to others, but go apeshit when it happens to them. Pro-palestinian voters primarily just don't want to see children bombed

This will do generational damage, regardless of whether or not we can fix the shit Elon is doing. May not matter if we can't, but even if we do this is the new global reality for how other countries will treat the US.
020
Jeff Smith @ouijeff.bsky.social · 05/02/2025
Lol. "Trusted" and Trump do not belong together in the same paragraph or page. That is one of the most damaging things he's doing to the US on a global scale. Our allies can't trust our trade agreements. Even if it's a trustworthy admin, who knows when the next Trump will come along.

Jeff Smith @ouijeff.bsky.social · 05/02/2025
Not saying we should ignore or de emphasize the shit Elon is doing, but this is something to keep an eye on.

Additionally, the area where most waffle houses exist hits his demographic almost perfectly. If Cracker Barrel would do something like this as well, it might well sink Trump.

I really do think issues like you're seeing with Waffle House have more potential to do damage with his low information voters than anything else. That shit confuses them and they just tune it out. Paying 50 cents per egg at Waffle House. They get that. They feel that. bsky.app/profile/ouij...

So we're agreeing on why he abdicated his oversight responsibilities. But I would hardly describe it as "just democracy" Feels a bit closer to just oligarchy to me.
010
Jeff Smith @ouijeff.bsky.social · 05/02/2025
I don't think what's going on right now qualifies as "just democracy" And I suppose the broader point that I was making is that @rokhanna.bsky.social is buckling because he is afraid of Elon and his friends. I used Peter Thiel as a recognizable stand-in for "incel tech brains who support Elon"

This is his district. I'll leave you to draw whatever conclusions you want from this. But I wonder if Musk has friends in this area? Like Peter Thiel?
