Schuman redevelopment finally done (for now!) so we can all hang out on a lovely vast expanse of paving, just be careful to dodge the bikes and the protesters 🇪🇺
Wide angle view of the newly opened and paved Rond Point Schuman in Brussels, with the Justus Lipsius, Europa, and Berlaymont buildings in the background selfie on RP Schuman with Berlaymont behind me and an expanse of paving strewn with grit and a few animal rights protestors hanging around after their noisy protest earlier

The branding & marketing makes a great deal of coming from Glashütte and indeed they can’t use the branding unless over 50% of the value is made in Glashütte itself, but really it’s a bit of a con in that regard as they use a stock movement sourced from Swiss company Sellita. (Which is fine.)

It feels a terrible indulgence given the state of everything (because let’s face it, it is) but I have treated myself to my first mechanical watch since I was a child and since the invention of the quartz movement and digital watches.

auch leider typisch für meinen Wohnort / meine Heimat 🙄 #FotoVorschlag
On a mini roundabout someone has spray painted an England flag (a practice pursued by the far right group ‘Raise the Flag’, encouraged by mainstream politicians). In the background, behind a sea of tarmac, two ugly cars are parked in front of a row of shops, including a fish & chip shop and a tanning salon. A pair of bare legs can be seen. A road sign points to neighbouring communities.

I’ve literally only just noticed that we’ve still got some Christmas decorations up, and also last year’s halloween decoration.
A fireplace. On the mantelpiece is a christmas tree decoration, a Santa gnome thing, and two angel candle thingies. On the hearth is a Rudolf model. Also on the mantelpiece is a halloween thing with ghosts and pumpkins. This photo was taken by me on 27 September.

‘See oder Teich’ #FotoVorschlag Lake Ontario, Canada View of the Toronto skyline from Niagara
Most of the photo is blue sky with a few white clouds. The bottom tenth shows a sea green expanse of water with choppy waves. At the distant horizon is a city skyline with skyscrapers, their base is just behind the curve of the earth.

We have a pigeon problem. And I’m reseeding my lawn with a clover mix. So I bought and installed a bird scarer. With predictable results. 🙄
A kite that looks like a bird of prey. In the distance, a single pigeon perches on the ridge of a house roof. Lurking. With intent.A scarified, raked, and reseeded lawn. A bird scarer. And, on the fence next to it, three fucking pigeons. The scary bird of prey kite. Ooh, menacing. Behind it, three pigeons who dgaf. Two pigeons blithely eating my freshly sown lawn seed.

As a cross-channel commuter, since Brexit I will often order things for delivery to my EU address to save on exorbitant duties. But I have to say we need to get our shit together in the Single Market on deliveries. On the UK side, fast delivery & info overload. EU side, snail’s pace & silence.
screenshot of my mail app showing messages about a delivery of some seeds I ordered a couple of days ago; I’ve been getting constant updates since I clicked “buy”screenshot of the DHL tracking website showing one update on Monday night and another on Tuesday morning with nothing since (two days later)

Haha yes I’m a massive snob about cappuccino, won’t touch the filth, although I’ll happily enjoy the atrocity they sometimes call cappuccino in southeast asia ie a pouch of instant coffee with creamer and sugar (the one in this photo is called espresso which it also isn’t)

Care to hazard a guess as to who might be the target of this shade we’re throwing?
The HQ of the EU’s foreign service (the EEAS), on the wall at the entrance are two big banners, one reads “Reliable.” The other reads “And that’s the whole point.”

QP with your home river. Kenneth Grahame grew up on this stretch of the Thames which inspired The Wind in the Willows.
A small sailing boat sails upstream on a wide river, on the further bank are wooded hills, on the near bank is a towpath and reeds, there is a tree casting shade. It all looks bloody lovely really and it is in fact bloody lovely.

Going to throw in my €0.02 here and say that there is lots of room for both approaches. As an adult enthusiast I love meticulously following the instructions and building vast £500 sets for which I have no space; but I see my son start on a set and then start riffing and getting v creative.

This response is depressingly predictable and kind of understandable and yet utterly wrong, not only is it not true, it also drives people into the arms of the populist shits who prompted the sentiment in the first place because of their corruption. No. Not all politicians are the same.
Bluesky post, poster hidden: “Fuck the government! At this point they are ALL CROOKS! Not one has declined taking our money and getting rich while most of us suffer! They make us all fight each other leaving sound bites to pretend to care. Down with big brother!!!!”
