This is a real microcar that was made in Japan decades ago. Just compare the size of the car with the people standing around it. Remarkably, you can still legally drive this car today.

This is a police branch building. In Japan, there is a main police station in every city or town, along with many smaller police substations throughout the community. There are always a few police officers stationed there. I think this is one of the reasons why Japan has a relatively low crime rate.

This is a traditional Japanese mansion that was built 103 years ago. It is now a museum. Generally speaking, houses in Hokkaido last for about 30 years. I imagine the annual maintenance costs must be enormous.

This red micro‑car is the Subaru 360. When I was in high school, Japan was full of Subaru 360s. It was only 118 inches long and 51 inches wide, with a 22‑cubic‑inch engine, weighing about 900 pounds. It produced 16 horsepower and had a top speed of around 50 miles per hour.

This brook was built by hand 160 years ago as an irrigation canal and is located in the center of downtown Sapporo. Nowadays, it is a symbol of the city. In autumn, many salmon come here to spawn.

This is a stuffed bear. This kind of bear lives on my island, Hokkaido. It is much smaller than a grizzly bear, but it is strong enough to kill us easily. Some people treat bears like teddy bears, but many people say that bears treat us like their food.

I visited these shopping streets. Whenever I walk through them, I feel excited. Just being there makes me happy. There used to be shopping streets like these all over Japan, but now only a few remain.

At first, I thought it was a regular gas station. But when I looked closer, I noticed the word "Hydrogen" on it. Yes, it was a hydrogen fueling station for fuel cell vehicles! It was the first time in my life I had ever seen one.
