Our new 4,893 fossil otoliths from northern Taiwan complete an 8-Myr coastal fish record. Miocene–Pleistocene change was driven mainly by taxonomic turnover, revealing a gradual shift toward modern western Pacific fish faunas. doi.org/10.3897/sjp....

New lab paper led by my first PhD student Dominique Mediodia, who also recently defended his PhD. We use 3DGM to show phylogenetic + ecological duality in sciaenid otoliths, linking shape & swim bladder morphology. doi.org/10.1111/cla....

New paper: Lower Pliocene fish otoliths from Cabarruyan Island, N Philippines. We analyzed 1,225 otoliths, described two new lanternfish species, refined age control, and reconstructed a tropical West Pacific fish community. doi.org/10.54103/203... #otolith #paleontology #fossil #fish

doi.org/10.1080/1323...

Marginal Increment Analysis of Fish Otoliths Highlights Early Coastal Sedentarization in the Arabian Neolithic
The Neolithic Period (6500–3300 BC) marks a crucial era in the emergence of maritime cultures and the co-development of fishing-based and pastoral economies in Eastern Arabia. A great number of Neo...
