i struggle to define GG as anything but "bad". i think it's a little overblown by some people but it is a case study into how we all managed to find ourselves in the middle of the forever culture war. the best thing would have been for it to not happen, the second best would be to understand why

oh i agree with you entirely. i lurked /v/ at the time and saw all of this go down in real time (while somehow actually knowing nothing i've come to realize since watching the video). it was a dogpile on an annoying woman exacerbated by the very real connections she had.

absolutely. my read of it is there has been an abundance of documentation of the harassment and so little investigation into the claims that he centered his video around trying to shed light on the misconceptions. i can totally see how it would come across as dismissive of the harassment itself.

the jessi slaughter thing was to illustrate the point that while the observed harassment was real there was more to the story than that. in no way does he justify 4chan's actions or paint them as misunderstood heroes.

The revelations on Zoe Quinn are pretty damming. It doesn’t erase that GamerGate was a huge harassment campaign, but it does provide very useful context. Like we already knew Brianna Wu fabricated her stories, now Quinn. It only shows how white women destroy progressiveness with their selfishness.
