No one need cry for Maria Bartiromo. She should be fine given "[Foxnews] has paid news anchor Maria Bartiromo a massive $70 million since 2014." www.tvinsider.com/1230455/fox-...
Fox News is in the middle of a lawsuit, which has brought to light some interesting behind-the-scenes details, including how the network has paid news anchor Maria Bartiromo a massive $70 million since 2014.

The revelation came in documents disclosed as part of Smartmatic’s $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News. The files, obtained by TheWrap, include transcriptions of the deposition in which Bartiromo, a defendant in the suit, was asked about her salary.

“And so is it fair to say that you, from when you first started working at Fox through sort of the upcoming contract in 2025, you would have stood to be compensated over $70 million?” Bartiromo was asked during the deposition.

She answered, “Yes.”

What a chump. MAGA is about gov't based not on data or evidence but on rumor and anecdotal often second-hand individual experience. Senator, there are exhaustive multi-year studies analyzing efficacy and side effects of Covid vaccines, like this one: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Key Points
Question Are COVID-19 mRNA vaccines associated with the long-term risk of all-cause mortality?

Findings In this cohort study including 22.7 million vaccinated individuals and 5.9 million unvaccinated individuals, vaccinated individuals had a 74% lower risk of death from severe COVID-19 and no increased risk of all-cause mortality over a median follow-up of 45 months.

Meaning These national-level results found no increased risk of 4-year all-cause mortality in individuals aged 18 to 59 years vaccinated against COVID-19, further supporting the safety of the mRNA vaccines that are being widely used worldwide.

Reports indicate Trump will deliver a speech about election “interference” in 2020. Let’s remember the Big Lie and what it means.
The claim that Trump won the 2020 election is a Big Lie.
A Big Lie changes reality. To believe it, people must disbelieve their senses, distrust their fellow citizens, and live in a world of faith.
A Big Lie undoes a society, since it divides citizens into believers and unbelievers.
A Big Lie destroys democracy, since people who are convinced that nothing is true but the utterances of their leader ignore voting and its results.
A Big Lie can never be told just by one person. Trump is the originator of this Big Lie, but it could never have flourished without his allies on Capitol Hill.
There is a cure for the Big Lie. Our elected representatives should tell the truth, without dissimulation, about the results of the 2020 election.
Politicians who do not tell the simple truth about the 2020 election — that Biden won and Trump lost — perpetuate the Big Lie, further an alternative reality, support conspiracy theories, weaken democracy, and foment violence far worse than that of January 6, 2021.

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus -- and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it -- that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all!

AI can experience model collapse, where the data it generates becomes polluted and leads to a loss of quality and accuracy in its outputs. This occurs because AI models rely on original content to learn and generate new data; without it, they may misinterpret reality and produce inferior results.

Amen. Nationalism is *not* the same as patriotism. I hope Dem candidates draw a sharp distinction between the two during the midterm campaigns. (and you know this definition is legit because it's from the AMERICAN HERITAGE dictionary).
nationalism /năsh′ə-nə-lĭz″əm, năsh′nə-/
noun
Devotion, especially excessive or undiscriminating devotion, to the interests or culture of a particular nation-state.
The belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively, emphasizing national rather than international goals.
The belief that a particular cultural or ethnic group constitutes a distinct people deserving of political self-determination.

On its surface, Callais resembles its two predecessors. It is primarily a statutory holding, not an overt constitutional one, undoubtedly a setback for voting rights but ultimately something that could appear fixable by a sufficiently robust John Lewis Act 2.0. But Alito’s reasoning embeds constitutional limits that preempt legislative remedy. Were Congress to pass a reform aimed at reversing Callais, Alito and his Republican-appointed colleagues would almost certainly deem it unconstitutional. The reason lies in the opinion’s embrace of what Alito calls “the limited authority that the Fifteenth Amendment confers” on Congress.

Explainer why narcissists like to hang out with losers (Living With A Narcissist drirene.com/10_nar.php)
The Narcissist is very much attracted to vulnerability, to unstable or disordered personalities or to the inferior. Such people constitute more secure sources of better quality narcissistic supply. The inferior offer adulation. The mentally disturbed, the traumatized, the abused become dependent and addicted to him. The vulnerable can be easily and economically manipulated without fear of repercussions.

It's striking how similar Iran's bargaining posture has been to Sam Spade's in The Maltese Falcon.
Spade: If you kill me, how are you gonna get the bird? And if I know you can't afford to kill me, how are you gonna scare me into giving it to you?
Gutman: Well, sir, there are other means of persuasion besides killing and threatening to kill.
Spade: Yes, that's, that's true. But - they're none of 'em any good unless the threat of death is behind them - do you see what I mean? If you start something, I'll make it a matter of your having to kill me or call it off.
Gutman: [chuckling] That's an attitude, sir, that calls for the most delicate judgment on both sides. 'Cause as you know, sir, in the heat of action, men are likely to forget where their best interests lie and that their emotions carry them away.
Spade: Then the trick from my angle is to make my play strong enough to tie you up, but not make you mad enough to bump me off against your better judgment.
Gutman: By gad, sir, you are a character.

"Trump screamed at me that he would do whatever he wanted."
4. The parties were held at a New York City residence that was being used by Defendant Jeffrey Epstein. Each of the parties had other minor females and a number of guests of Mr. Epstein, including Defendant Donald Trump at four of the parties I attended. I understood that both Mr. Trump and Mr. Epstein knew that I was 13 years old.
5. Defendant Trump had sexual contact with me at four different parties in the summer of 1994. On the fourth and final sexual encounter with Defendant Trump, Defendant Trump tied me to a bed, exposed himself to me, and then proceeded to forcibly rape me. During hte Course of this savage sexual attack, I loudly pleaded with Defendant Trump to stop but he did not. Defendant Trump responded to my pleas by violently striking me in the face with his open hand and screaming that he would do whatever he wanted.

FACT #1: States have myriad checks in place to make sure that only eligible U.S. citizens can vote.
Myth vs. Fact: Under federal and state law, only U.S. citizens can vote in state and federal elections. To register to vote, a person must swear to their U.S. citizenship under penalty of criminal prosecution. Election processes are full of checks to identify ineligible voter registrants.

Under federal law, states are required to conduct regular list maintenance to remove ineligible voters from the rolls. Many states also participate in the Electronic Registration Information Center, which allows members to compare their voter rolls across state lines and ensure that lists are accurate and up-to-date.

All voters’ names and addresses are recorded, and ineligible voters face severe penalties, including jail time or deportation. A noncitizen working toward naturalization can be denied citizenship for being registered to vote.

fwiw Former NY Congressman Barney Frank wrote about this in his memoir (Frank: A Life In Politics) labeling it Republicans' "starve the beast" strategy.
The Republicans' unanimous opposition to any tax increase in Clinton's first term—in the face, for example, of Alan Greenspan's assertion that it was economically necessary—marked the next stage of their effort to starve the beast. By keeping government revenues low, they would force the kind of program cuts they could not win on the merits. In their post-1992 right-wing posture, the GOP was on the way to perfecting a politically potent two-step—delegitimizing the government while defunding it in a mutually reinforcing cycle.

I mean, if I were ever to write anything half as insane as this to a federal judge I would likely be immediately disbarred.
Judge, please pardon me for being so direct, but your order of January 28 did not merely contain some errors, as you anticipated it may. Assuming the statistical sample we chose is as representative of the whole as I believe it likely is, the information compiled by others for your order was far beyond the pale of accuracy for an order that would be wielded so publicly and so sharply. The lawyers in my civil division didn't deserve it.

Read for a refresher on what happens to a nation when its people carelessly hand power to those with really bad intentions, it may seem eerily familiar. Also THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE A BOOK so MAN UP PUBLISHERS! I would buy this book and copies for everyone I know.
Dorothy saw that the German people were impoverished, demoralized, scared, humiliated, frustrated, and cynical. She saw that a population with those characteristics was vulnerable to an authoritarian takeover. She saw the nation awash in widespread propaganda efforts to normalize Nazi ways of thinking and acting, enforced with violence, terror, and intimidation. She saw that the Nazi practices of saturating the nation with party symbols like uniforms, arm bands, and flags, conducting sham elections, silencing opposition parties and newspapers, censoring books and professors, conducting extra-judicial killings and violence—and, above all, constantly testing German citizens’ loyalty to the Nazi regime in both thought and action—had already succeeded in changing Germany. When she took a critical look at Nazi propaganda efforts, she saw appeals to emotion over reason, the widespread use of fear appeals, and the creation of a sentimental and pseudo-religious narrative that made Hitler a demigod and Nazism a religion. Dorothy saw that in the new Nazi Germany outsiders were framed as threats, disloyal insiders were framed as corrupt, and Hitler was framed as Germany’s only hope.
