Good to see. Really had tried to get LBH to do some of this 25 yrs ago when lived in the area and officers were like 'you cannot be serious?'

Note there are 2 routes options out from Canterbury, west branch via Dukes Meadow (slightly less steep, great view of Canterbury from Neals Place), or east branch to the university (with long dismount section under railway and steeper uphill). Reward yourself with oysters at the Whitstable end

So, for nearly a year I've been working with @ategov.bsky.social on designing better active for women and girls. And now it's out. There's guidance on design and engagement, and me talking about it all in a seminar to boot. www.activetravelengland.gov.uk/resources/ac...
An illustration of what an urban space might look like if it were designed to be welcoming for women and girls, with cafes, safe bike parking, greenery, separated bike lanes and play facilities for teenage girls - and food carts.

Coade stone lion I think came from Duke of Northumberland's house in Northumberland Avenue when it was demolished in late 19C for London County Council road widening scheme. Plus ça change (Also I got married in the grounds in 1985!)

Isn't the problem with these gizmos that the elephant in the road feels it now somehow has exclusive use of 6m of adjoining kerbside cos they paid a bit towards 50mm of it?

Happy birthday Tom Wright (according to the newspaper). Still recall tagging along on the small team with you that started this off on the Chicago Beach in Jumeirah, though sadly my marina has since been built over by another monster hotel!

Best find at today's collector's fair - a postcard of the short-lived #monorail at #rhyl. It only ran for a few weeks in 1980 - read more at theleisurehistorian.com/rhyl-monorail/

Its hard not to like these 16C brass miniatures in an altar step in church in Kent - these ones are about only 4 to 6" across (should have put something to scale them by)

Always feel sorry for those I seeing using these, particularly young families with push chairs. There's a similar one at Crown Hill in Plymouth, though only 51k vehicles a day compared to 63k (was 97k in 2024!) at Blackwall. Tried to improve these in a project for HARCA many years back - but TfL...

As railways seem to be a popular subject, here's a 1910 map of the London Underground. Part of a pocket-sized pamphlet 'London: what to see & how to see it. The Excursionists' Guide with Map' 🗺️ If there are any requests for historic maps of particular areas in and around London, let us know!

Signed. Every station needs a square (for interchange and social/green space), lifts, cycle/footbridge over the lines, and fill the 5min walk isochrone with net 70dph+ apartments/ town houses. P.S also remove NR use of permitted dev rights to slap up car parks on redundant rail land

Good work. I find the issue in new developments is lack of prescription for side road tables in local highway guides that DM officers like to adhere to. Some new street design codes include them. I've been drawing them into plans for decades but often seen them inexplicably dropped at S38 stage

In cycling cities site cabins get stacked on top of each other with the bottom cabin/ container having the cycle track ramped up and continue through it no problem

I'd say that is close to my experience on major developments (>100) - larger ones seem to be almost a generation in the making. Interesting that landscape setting and visual impact together were readdressed 10x, more than drainage and highways, tho political gerrymandering doesn't seem to feature

Still waiting to hear from Lime after querying why they gave me a 'Warning for not parking correctly' after they turned off my bike when I paused at side of road to look at my map (in Netherlands). The app said "because my ride had been unusually long". Is there a time limit. Has anyone had this?

10,000 fewer on-street car parking spaces. That's the pledge from Amsterdam's new coalition government over the next four years. While many cities still argue whether change is possible, Amsterdam is reclaiming its public realm one tree, bench, bike rack, terrace, playground, and garden at a time.
