Born in 1950 and raised in Dublin, Michael Ashur commenced his studies at NCAD in the late 1960s. The visual novelty of Ashur’s paintings and their capacity to capture the eye and imagination were central to his success from the mid-1970s.

Thaís Muniz is an interdisciplinary artist and designer interested in the Afro-diasporic connections, identity, belonging and migration. For ‘Energy Made Visible’ Muníz’s has produced a series of geometric diagrams forged in iron.

‘Energy Made Visible’ is a group exhibition centred around the paintings of Michael Ashur (1950–2024). For this exhibition Sean Lynch has produced a pamphlet featuring reproductions of material from the Michael Ashur Artist File, found at the National Irish Visual Arts Library, N.C.A.D, Dublin.

Ann Maria Healy works with video, sculptural and textual form. With their luminous hues, subtly blended effects, and angular compositions, Michael Ashur’s paintings are the natural counterpart to Healy’s animation entitled ‘Gabhlán Gaoithe-Dara Sraith (Swift - Second Series)’.

‘Energy Made Visible’ is a group exhibition centred around the paintings of Michael Ashur. Garrett Phelan has ‘translated’ a 1988 painting by Ashur into sound. Using image sonification technology, ‘Fragment of Orion’ has been converted into a soundscape, then pressed into a transparent vinyl record.

‘Memory of a Free Festival’ comprises two distinct strands: archival artefacts and ephemera pertaining to the Carnsore Point festivals and the Irish anti-nuclear movement, and new works by contemporary artists.

Derek Speirs was born in Dublin, and graduated from the Polytechnic of Central London and the Royal College of Art in 1977. A ubiquitous presence at rallies and protests across Ireland for decades, Speirs’ acclaimed photojournalism is informed by a strong sense of social justice.

Cóilín O’Connell studied at NCAD, Dublin and the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam. As Brass Neck Press he edits, designs, and distributes artists’ publications and zines. Collecting and editing found objects, images and texts are central strategies in his work.

Alanna O’Kelly attended NCAD, Dublin and the Slade School of Art, London. Her practice incorporates sculpture, performance, slide installation and film. Influenced by feminist politics, O’Kelly explores ideas of the psychic conflicts of our shared history and the continuity of tradition.

Last week members of the Ormston House team attended Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm. We presented a solo booth by Daniel Tuomey featuring drawings, a multi-media sculpture, and a performance of ‘Stuck, an excavation’.
