Wow, that’s a lot to get your head around Dawn. Sorry to hear that….but full marks for sticking to the plan, and continuing to be positive. 🤞🏻x

Tough day out at Martin Down on Friday, alternating between warm sunshine and thundery downpours! Good to see 2nd Gen butterflies on the wing, Common and Adonis Blues + Clouded Yellows still abundant. Over 20 Spot Flys, and single male Redstart too. But this Hornet Robberfly stole the show!

After just one Vestal here, in 2023, I’ve had two in the last two days. A scarce find in Bath, and very welcome in my garden, Paul! 👍🏼

Agree Joe. And a couple of years ago, I’d never dream of getting Small Marbled either, and others like this Vestal from last night.

….and followed that up with a decent few hours on my ‘patch’ at Batheaston Water Meadows….where at least 20 Clouded Yellows showed well, plus Small Copper and a really unusual find here, with a ‘raggedy’ looking Adonis Blue, way out of its area! @bathnature.bsky.social

The moth trap didn’t produce much this morning, but luckily, the only moth that added to my year list was found in the bedroom! Welcome to the Red-Underwing!

Of course, taking no notice of the ‘official’ way to watch the eclipse, reaped its own rewards….as with this joint team effort on the Portland Obs Patio this evening… 😉

After another hot day, it was nice to catch up with a second gen pretty fresh Adonis Blue, near the Pulpit Pub on Portland this afternoon…. @portlandbirdobs.bsky.social

A visit to the new ‘wilding’ site in Somerset today, and was great to see so many butterflies on the wing…though the Wasp Spiders seemed to have a liking for Meadow Browns…..

Enjoyable run of quality moths shows no sign of diminishing just yet, with this superbly marked Small Marbled, in the garden actinic this morning…. A new one here.

Same with Pine! Very worn individual yesterday, but though mostly Large Yellow Underwings in the trap this morning, this Gypsy moth was a nice find.

Moth catch on the up! Back from a top week in Cumbria, and enjoying the moth trap in this extremely hot weather… Best was this Tree-Lichen Beauty, a real scarcity around the West Country, I believe?

Maybe Infantino will allow Quansah’s Red-card to be rescinded to a later date too, now? Well, he set the precedent… 😉

The Box Moths destroyed nearly all the Box bushes in National Trust Prior Park in Bath a couple years ago….and then they replaced them with…errr..more Box! 🤷🏻‍♂️😆

You really can’t beat a day (and night) out on the Dorset Heaths! Nightjars showed well, but it was nice to see an assortment of quality invertebrates….. Heath Tiger beetle, Heath and Mottled Bee-flys and one of the Jewel wasps, genus Hedychrum…

Dunno how scarce or rare the Clancy’s Rustic is these days, but definitely first for me away from Portland! Nice addition to the garden list…

With the latest heatwaves, it was obvious the moths were going to erupt, and so they have! Hard work getting up to check the trap at 5.00am especially after the England game, but some real goodies this morning. This male Four-spotted Footman was new for the garden…and pristine too!

Well, we thought we’d try for an early White-Admiral and/or a Silver-Washed Fritillary…..,and we got both…with three of each. A full 10 days earlier than last year! Shame the Fritillary wasn’t as accommodating as the Admiral though… 😁

Also, it was completely unexpected, but this Beautiful Golden Y was found on the cool-box, whilst travelling back from a Marvellous Moths Event in Sydney Gardens, Bath! Jammy or what!! 😁

The little Vixen brought the cub out this morning! We thought she had cubs, and she came and showed off her single one…though she spends most of her time looking for it, as it’s very inquisitive and runs off a lot!

The little Vixen has got used to me (a bit) and is happy to relax in the garden in daylight now. I’m sure she’ll be bringing cubs out soon…. 🤞🏻 🦊

Still tough going out there this spring, but after 6 hours of roaming in the heat at Martin Down yesterday, I did manage to hear 1st Cuckoo this year, and saw some NFY butterflies, including these…Grizzled Skipper, Green-Hairstreak and lots of Small Copper..
