Actually in the process of that myself. Have a few major systems to go, but getting there.

Original Syn @original-syn.com · 29/09/2026

I enjoy making something for others. That is why I got into open source in the first place and why I am so happy to be back involved with it again. Getting upset and the drama does nothing positive.

I think some of us, and I have myself get, caught up on something that may not be deserving of getting an influx of funds and feel like it is not fair. It probably isn't, but many like me never got into this for that. Sure I want funds to go to better projects, but that is not in my hands.

I am not an influencer. I follow more than follow me on social media. I don't have a name that will get people to just donate money to #Solus. None of that bothers me. I am who I am, and I enjoy contributing to an #OpenSource #Linux distro that people can use. I don't expect anything in return.

Got to love a government that kills small businesses since they can't really donate to their precious campaign funds just so that the billion-dollar corporations can ink out a few more cents on their bottom line.

Try reaching out to #Vultr on a question regarding a small instance for our community, trying to replace DigitalOcean. Nothing but crickets. I use them for my business (put that in the request), but I didn't expect a yes. But not responding for over a week is frustrating. Oh well the search goes on

Contributing to Linux & open source can be rewarding, but you have to have thick skin at times. Many have no idea the commitment it can take & can often ignore all the good for one issue that they have. But you know what. I still love what I am doing. Not going to let stuff like that get me down.

It is sad that now when I see the phrase "I built this app" I immediately think that, no, AI built the app. I know that is not always the case, and there are some great devs out there, but I see this so often I've become cynical. Not long ago, I was excited to see that in the open source community

Even as a lifelong Linux user, Windows 7 was just a solid OS. Back then, then you couldn't really play many games on Linux, so I used Windows 7 for it, and it was not bad. After that? Let's just say I am happy I can play my games on Linux now. Microsoft is the case study for enshittification.

I actually grew up on the original BSD starting when I was just a young teen in the late 80s. I love me some freeBSD and have a desktop & server running it, but I also love Linux, which has been my primary since the early 90s. Both are great and freeBSD is worth a try.
