I have the Ballistus from my Leviathan set I was converting to make it look more classically Dreadnoughty so that I could submit it to StibioPrimaris' Dread competition in 2023. And then I got a run of bad colds for two months. Been sitting on top of my painting desk in bits ever since.

A pile of miniature bits for a Ballistus Dreadnought.

Some Berlin Brigade inspired terrain and the last of three Krootox. I love Kroot but I have now painted 6 Rampagers and 3 Krootox and never want to paint another one. Complete pain.

Imperial Knights + Victoria Hayward = Excitement Deathworlder made me want to paint Catachans, no doubt I will get the knightly urge with this.

I have used existing signs. There's a variety for post-apocalyptic/ horror/40k/scifi etc out there and I'd rather spend the time on other parts of a project. E.g. these are transfers from Mighty Brush

I'm a big fan of Imperial seccesionists as a concept. There's probably a lot of them in modern 40k as well, what with higher tithes to resource the Indomitus Crusades and feeling abandoned during the Noctis Aeterna. The FFG RPG Only War had the seccesionist Severan Dominate, with a Roman aesthetic.

There was a reference to Doomrider in a recent White Dwarf, fighting Wazdakka. Think it was WD525

Text:
THE BLOODSANDS OF PULVENOR

Formerly consumed by the warp storms of the Great Rift, the ghost world of Pulvenor is in the grip of a bloody war between the forces -mortal and otherwise- of Khorne and Slaanesh when the first Orks land and join the fighting. Ruined highways and deserts of crimson sand play host to horrific battles between armoured vehicles, brazen Blood Crushers and masses of Slaaneshi chariots. In storm- wracked and violet skies, winged monstrosities and jagged Chaos Space Marine interceptors engage in whirling duels with squadrons of Ork aircraft. Wazdakka becomes embroiled in the pursuit of Chaos Space Marine bikers. Pursuing his prey into a winding canyon, he picks off his opponents individually until only their leader remains. Wreathed in warpfire, the stranger is the first foe to outpace Wazdakka. Taking a shortcut through a hidden cavern, the Bikeboss seems set to finally cut off his quarry. As he hurls his grabba dragga towards the target, Wazdakka catches sight of a pallid face, distorted features twisted into a leering grin. Then, the burning rider is gone – disappearing

in a cloud of exhaust fumes before Wazdakka’s weapon can strike home.

The greenstuffing is a bit rough, but this was the first and most extensive kitbash/conversion I did when I returned to the hobby. Think the hilt turned out well.

Amidst the (good) news about Mike Flanagan working on the 40k show, there was also this statement in the GW financial report about AI, and the 6 fingered Marine.

Text from image:

AI

As noted in our November 2025 half year report, we are not being complacent on the topic, we are carefully monitoring what others are saying and doing. We are not using Al at Games Workshop in our product design nor on the creation of our IP, this will protect the integrity and ownership of our IP. We have made a few human errors on the depiction of our products in our product marketing in the year, they were investigated fully to ensure that AI had not been used and that all our staff are following our internal policies.
◦An added complexity is the need to monitor and protect ourselves from a data compliance, security and governance perspective. Al or ◦machine learning engines now seem to be automatically included in third party software whether we like it or not. So it gets difficult for us to say we are not using Al outside of the Warhammer studio, something we are just going to have to potentially live with and monitor carefully.
We are proud to deliver consistent great returns employing great people (many of them hobbyists themselves) celebrating with other hobbyists in the real world. Our business performance is still built on staff development and hard work with very little waste.

Possibly too nice, I have been afraid to paint them. I feel that nearly eight years later my painting skills might be up to the task though, and I replayed Batman Arkham Asylum recently so have been tempted to give them a go. They're also doing Absolute Batman later this year, with a reprint of this
