#SeaWednesday I saw this Scallop shell on the beach in Lincoln City. iNaturalist suggested those are Boring Sponge on the outside of the shell. #shellfish
The outside of the shell is almost entirely covered in a pattern that looks somewhat like honeycomb-shaped patterns created by boring sponge. It’s white in color, similar to corals. The inside of the scallop shell is white, mother of pearl, roughly oval with a nearly flat purple top edge where it connects to the other valve. There are a few tiny pinholes, probably drilled by the boring sponge.

The sand is wet and bubbles are seen on the right side of the murre. The broad side of a sea lion is dead on the beach with light brown fur glistening in the sunlight, with its hind flippers turned slightly toward the camera. Seven people ride horses on the beach with a sand dune in the distance. A pickup truck is seen stuck halfway up the dune with its rear wheels buried up to the frame of the truck bed. Two people stand near the top of the dune looking forlorn at the stranded pickup. Two people sit on the dune enjoying the coast. Vegetation grows along the top of the dune and a passage is seen over the dune with tire tracks where many vehicles have passed over.

Today I saw a false jingle shell (Pododesmus macrochisma) about four inches in diameter on the beach in Lincoln City on the #OregonCoast. For more information see: inverts.wallawalla.edu/Mollusca/Biv…
The bottom of a shell is nearly circular and white with faint yellowing and a hole near the top and it appears hollow inside. The top of the shell is white with brownish bands and a pearly sheen.

A Big Skate egg case (also known as a“mermaid’s purse”) was lying on the beach near the tide line. i found this helpful explanation: themarinedetective.com/2020/04/11/b…
A tan colored oval-shaped thing is lying on the beach with a men’s size 10.5 shoe placed beside it for size comparison and they’re almost the same size. The center-top has a notched gap and the bottom has a crescent-shaped gap. This side of the egg case has what appears to be mossy bits growing on the bottom, but that’s where the eggs were attached. This looks almost exactly the same as the last except the reverse side of the egg case is completely smooth without the mossy looking bit at the bottom.

The base of the mountain rises from the sea in the background covered with wind swept conifers. A large rock shaped like a sharp shark tooth juts up from the surf just beyond the sandy beach. The beach has ripple patterns in the wet sand alluvium and endless channels of water receding at low tide. Fog hangs low in the distance and conifers can be seen above the beyond the beach.Proposal Rock is a basalt sea stack covered in shrubs and vegetation with tall pine trees on the east side. At low tide, most of the base is exposed revealing the lack of vegetation due to erosion by the waves. Danae and Barbara are walking east away from the sea near the base of the sea stack.

Danae and Calvin are standing on the Beach smiling with dark sunglasses. Danae has red hair and a bit of sunburn on her shoulder and chest above the neckline. Calvin has brown hair frosted with gray and is wearing a backpack with the shoulder strap visible.Waves gently break near the beach. God’s Thumb, the basalt rock cliff, can be seen in the distance. A few wispy clouds can be seen out a ways from shore.
