Our game did ok! Not as good as I hoped but not bad at all. Top 12% or so across art/enjoyment is good enough, but we'll be back next year to try again!

I'm used to manga characters having pretty strange outfits, but nothing coulda prepared me for the audacity of this fit
Character from Vol 2 of Servant Beasts, an imposing dragon wearing an officer's outfit like a corset with like, a ring holding up a tiny loincloth? It's like a somebody wanted a horny top _and_ bottom but also business around the waist

We participated in #LudumDare the other weekend! Made a lil' platformer with @bluewoozle.bsky.social and four other friends in 72 hours.
Title art for Through The Brush, with a paper-cut shadowbox aesthetic. The title art has heavy browns everywhere, and some light blue mountains in the back. A silhouette of Minn, the main character (a fox with a staff) is in the center.A gif of Minn, the main character, walking through some ruins, with pillars in the foreground. Minn is twirling layers to dodge past some rocks on the ground. At the end, a 3d staircase is visible.

Never got around to concluding this travelogue, but at the last week I just got hit with so much misfortune. The Wolf Bar Asakusa was unusually closed the one week I was in Tokyo, I got sick :(, doujin&manga I wanted to buy got sold out the day before I arrived, hotel door's handle fell off, :((((
Calendar showing which bar was currently using this shared bar space. The only week I was in Tokyo, the furry bar was closed (probably because of NFC?)Notice for the closure of Wolf Bar Asakusa from the birdsiteHotel door had no handle because it broke right before I arrived :(. I had a very hard time opening it.

Nagabe's stuff pre-Girl From The Other Side was also pretty kinky too!
Cover of 部長はオネエ by Nagabe, printed 2015, featuring a kingfisher(?), wolf, and a dragon, all in suits. The dragon in the front is wearing heels on one of their feet.Nagabe's credit from ケモLingerie Book, buyable here: https://mercurochrome.booth.pm/items/1204719. Printed in 2014, though it was sold online circa 2019. The image behind Nagabe's name is a small cut-out of a dragon (this is the only public image I could find -- I didn't want to copyright infringe by pasting anything from inside the comic itself)

Are there other, better arcade rhythm games? Maybe. But they don't let me use furries as avatars so CHUNITHM HERE WE GO.

Visited the lab I used to work at back in 2014. Honestly, a strange feeling seeing a project you worked on tirelessly for 6 months grow after 10 years. Apparently they're going to apply the sensors I worked on, to detect anomalies in cow milk. Very cool, but made me feel like I peaked in undergrad
A messy photo of the workspace for the lab I used to work in. Though the location has changed, it remains as messy as I remember it being. An internals shot of the experimental setup for one of the devices I worked on. I made sure not to reveal any confidential information in this shot, it's just the experimental setupA screen showing four channels of the device I worked on. It was surreal to see the work I did a decade ago progress to this point.

Visited a cave yesterday where a samurai spent his last days meditating (Reigandō). Honestly did not realize that the word cave refers to any old hole in the hill, always thought of them as being large underground chambers.
Cave shrine to 閻魔, judge of the dead, in a cave. Very spooky atmosphere, undercut by the fact that it was midday and I don't know how to properly frame a shot.A sign showcasing a pillar with 閻魔洞, and the previous photo in the backfieldA photo of the main shrine in ReigandōAnother shot of vines and fortunes inside Reigandō.

Did you know that sudoku (数独) is a copyrighted term in Japan, and so almost every sudoku book calls it ナンバープレース (Number Place) instead?
Photo of a sudoku book on the shelf of the bookstore Maruzen. The label calls it ナンバープレース, and is medium difficulty taking about 20-28 minutes to solve

Went to Nara park where I passed by like, three signs warning me about how aggressive male deers could be. I then proceeded to see the most chill, unaffected deer ever (he ate a deer cracker from me, which some nice people were kind enough to share)
Two warning signs about deer. The first described an uptick in deer related injuries, the other warns against feeding them anything but deer crackers. A warning with "BEWARE OF MALE DEER, DANGER, WILD ANIMALS" and four different aggressive actions they can take. Photo of some trees in an open area. Hidden near the base is a male deer, laying down.Close up of the most chill deer I've ever met. Hardly responded when I approached, and ate one of my crackers without really doing much. Did you know that they'll bow at you when they want a cracker? It's very cute! Other male deer will (gently) headbutt you as well.

On the way over I passed by a bookstore so I checked out their video game development section. One that caught my eye is ゲームで学ぶPython, which teaches you Python with the guidance of this anthropomorphic cat. Unfortunately, the code is very Python 2-based... could be stylistically better.
"Learning Python With Games!" is how I'd translate this one. It's got dialogue between this anthropomorphic cat and the girl, as they teach you Python.A sample page from the inside of the book, with sample code.A bookshelf just labeled 「PHP 新書」. Unlike what I originally thought, PHP is just the name of a publishing series for like, history books? I thought it was an entire shelf for the language lolCool travel sleeve thingy for books. Protects the cover from the rain and stuff I assume? Looked neat.

Food pictures, because no travelogue is complete without some.
Ramen from Tokyo station, with all the standard fixings. I've been here in the past and it tastes just like I remember!Five fried assorted skewers from Naraism. It's overpriced imo, but neat. Some sort of soup I ordered by accident at Naraism, with mussels, mint, and lemon slices. Tasted good!Close up of three cans from a vending machine, all served hot. From left to right: soup (I can't read what flavor it says), crap soup, and some sort of sweet potato + milk?? Pretty neat

Day 2: Holy crap, if you get the chance to take the Shinkansen (and have a reason to travel), definitely try it at least once. It moves incredibly fast, and it's a very comfy ride. The entire first half of the trip I was like, "is this thing _still_ accelerating??"
Exterior of the Shinkansen, showcasing that this is the Nozomi line. It's called the Super Express, and boy does it feel like it. Apparently this is the fastest Shinkansen line?Shot from the right window, showcasing a bridge. I kinda dig the look of it. Mt. Fuji, covered in snow. Ten years ago I climbed it! It's surprisingly easy to climb if I recall, there's a route and rails and a bus that takes you most of the way up.A shot of some other mountains whose peaks are covered in clouds. It's a very gray aesthetic kinda photo.

I also finally played 英傑大戦 after ignoring it for 10 years because it has no furries unlike Lord of Vermillion 3. It's a real interesting tactics game where you control groups of soldiers by moving literal cards around a surface. Pretty fun!
Photo I took of the arcade machine for 英傑大戦. I'm good enough at Japanese to be able to play these without really needing a translator, except for the part where I didn't realize that it autodispenses the tutorial cards. It's interesting that these machines will give you a card for playing, making it very fun to keep coming back to.Screenshot (not mine) of the game in action

Next I hit up Yellow Submarine to see what was new in Japan's board game scene. Gamedev marketing note: board games will sometimes get entirely different box art to appeal to a target audience.
Um Krone Und Kragen, with the Japanese art edition. Notably, it's got furries in it, like their previous iteration of Pelastgeffluster. Also a tabletop RPG called Never Late Nighters about the people working in the background of giant mecha anime, where you play overworked office workers, cleaning up the mess from mecha fights美術大戦, a game about famous art characters fighting? Lmao at Uranus Eating His PizzaSome interesting looking board games. Gonna be honest, they looked neat but I would never be able to table any of these with my friends in Canada. There's a lot of murder mystery board game thingies? I have no idea how they're played, so if anyone's heard of these please let me know

Next was to hit up a nearby Mandarake for some secondhand furry doujinshi. Noticed that the furry section is now half a bookshelf, which is like three times as large as the last time I was here. Found a really good one by @ponzutas.bsky.social
The furry section of Shinjuku Mandarake. It's now three whole rows long!!PonzuTas's 2023 artbook. Helluva good findCool shot of the manga/LN section.Another shot of the manga section. Really makes you realize why manga has such long titles -- hard to stand out when all you get most of the time is a spine with the title on it (I know there's a culture around web novels on a particular site that contributes to it but)

Day 1: kobold gets a pretty good fortune and finds a pretty temple nearby. But accidentally going in the opposite direction of anything cool, I've managed to miss nearly everything cool in Minato but it's ok I'll be back
My fortune from the temple. Notably, it's got a good fortune for travel and that I should do what my heart tells me to, which feels like some pretty good luck. Temple inners. Remember: two claps, two bows, one clap, one bow is the ritual!A hidden two other temples behind the first one that I almost missedA small animal shrine right behind the twin shrines! This one had very little but those statues are so cute.

Haven't heard anyone talk about this yet, but did ya know there's _four_ furry indie titles coming out over the span of a week from now?
Header image for Ratopia, which is a video game about managing a colony of mice?? Coming out on the 5th of Nov, 2023.Header image for Cobolt Core, with four furries in space. It's a pixelart deckbuilder roguelike, kinda like Slay the Spire but with really fun ship-aiming mechanics. Comes out Nov 8th and I have played the demo like, six or so times because it's really good.Header image for Back to the Dawn, a prison break RPG coming out *checks watch* last night while I was asleep. Features a fox as the main character, with pixel art ahoy. Can't wait 'til work is done so I can play this .-.Header image for Cuisineer, a cooking game where you play as a kemomimi catgirl coming out on Nov 9th 2023. There's also a buff wolfguy which is more up my speed as one of the NPCs.
