Since Jenny Holzer really seems to be hitting hard today, one more for good measure: Kurt Cobain in Times Square, 1993, with Jenny Holzer theater marquee in the background
It is 1993. Times Square is still in its seedy state of that era, before its clean-up and Disneyfication. Various passerby stroll along a sidewalk at back. Above them, a phrase in black, all-caps lettering appears on a theater marquee: "MEN DON'T PROTECT YOU ANYMORE." In the foreground, we see a man standing, in jeans, a white t-shirt, and a pullover sweater. He wears sunglasses, the light reflecting off his swept-back blond hair. It is the legendary musician Kurt Cobain.
