Fostering Innovation Through Open Science Workshop Summary

About ORCA The Open Research Community Accelerator (ORCA) is a non-profit focused on making science more engaging, accessible, and actionable. ORCA prides itself on being a “doing shop” rather than ...

001

Open Research Community Accelerator (ORCA) @orca-open.bsky.social · 02/03/2026

Key blockers discussed at the workshop: • Incentives rarely reward open practices • Open data can be extracted into closed AI systems without reciprocity • Shared digital infrastructure is underfunded & fragile No single sector can solve these alone. [3/4]

111

Open Research Community Accelerator (ORCA) @orca-open.bsky.social · 02/03/2026

Clear workshop takeaway: openness is no longer just a set of aspirational principles. It’s essential innovation infrastructure. Open science, open data, & open source fuel discovery, power AI advances, drive economic growth, and deliver public value. But real barriers remain. [2/4]
