@techconnectify.bsky.social Does "Too Many Small Kitchen Appliances" include stand mixers? I've been thinking about them an irrational amount lately, in particular why they're so expensive.

Just watched the new #PercyJackson teaser. I'm sorry, it looks terrible. That "sky" is obviously just a plastic piece being held up by an overhead scaffold, Walker isn't even trying to look like he's holding anything. It looks like a Disney Parks photo-op, not a million dollar visual effect.

Me, seeing a book on a store shelf: "Ooh, a murder mystery where the detective is an octopus? That sounds fun." The book in question: "Look at all these *assholes*!"

Just finished recording the voiceover for my PJO 201 video. With all the dead air and alternate takes, I ended up with just over an hour of raw audio.

Audacity selection toolbar, showing a total length of 1 hour, 0 minutes, 54.662 seconds.

Finally gave up on endlessly tweaking the scripts, and buckled down to start actually recording my videos for #PJOTV season 2

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 31/05/2026

Huh, it seems Rick Riordan agrees with my speculation on the #PercyJackson season 4 renewal. At least, that Disney is waiting to see how season 3 will perform before the renewal. I doubt he's as pessimistic about those prospects as I am...

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 25/05/2026

"I'm not a hero, I'm just a coward" No, Dr. Grace, you are a *victim*. What Stratt did to you is far more fucked up than you rightfully valuing your own life. #ProjectHailMary

020

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 25/05/2026

I didn't know it was possible, but somehow the final flashback in #ProjectHailMary is even more fucked up in the book

000

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 22/05/2026

Great summary of the anthropic principle right here (from #ProjectHailMary)

(Text from book)
"Why is Eridian science and human science so similar? Billions of years, but almost the same progress."
It's been bugging
me for a while. Humans and Eridians evolved
separately in separate star systems. We had no contact with each other until now. So why is it that we have almost identical technol- ogy? I mean, Eridians are a little behind us in space technology, but not a ton. Why aren't they in their stone age? Or some superfuturistic age that makes modern Earth look antiquated?
"Has to be, or you and I would not meet," Rocky says. "If planet has less science, it no can make spaceship. If planet has more science it can understand and destroy Astrophage without leaving their system. Eridian and human sci- ence both in special range: Can make ship, but can't solve Astrophage problem."

Am I misremembering, or was Rocky naked throughout the #ProjectHailMary movie?

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 20/05/2026

Either it's getting late, or this show has fried my brain lol

Photograph of computer screen showing text document, cropped to the relevant text.
It reads '"I'd assumed that champion was you, Percy." – In the book, this whole conversation between Chiron and Percy was about his role in the prophecy. Specifically, about Percy's anxieties about having to save Olympus at such a young age, and the Fates fortelling that somebody will day that die.'

The fact that Dr. Lokken was cut from the #ProjectHailMary movie is criminal. Her introduction scene is hilarious.

010

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 13/05/2026

Me: "The #DisneyUpfront is today. Maybe we'll get a new teaser for #PercyJackson season 3. Or maybe they'll surprise me and announce season 4." Rick Riordan: "So you know how I still haven't finished the Senior Year Adventures? Well, here's a new series of retcon books that I'm working on instead."

Just finished re-reading The Sea of Monsters. Might need to double-check some other books, but otherwise... I might be ready to start writing these videos

000

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 26/02/2026

Just got done re-reading the Sirens chapter of "The Sea of Monsters". Still struggling to make sense of this statement from that initial press release. Like, did they genuinely forget the conversation from the book?

Excerpt from the Entertainment Weekly article.
Quote: "But that doesn’t mean it's an exact recreation of how it is in the book. In fact, Jeffries warns there's "a huge change" from the source material, but both actors believe that makes the moment even better. Scobell also reveals that Percy and Annabeth actually take the time to have an emotional and honest conversation about their relationship after their encounter with the Sirens, rather than just moving on to the next leg of their journey, expanding on the way they bond from that experience in the book."

Officially have my first pass of notes for the entire season. Got some stuff going on tomorrow, but hopefully I can still bang out a discussion video for episode 8

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 22/01/2026

Genuinely not even sure how I'm going to sin the last couple episodes of Percy Jackson season 2. They draw so little from the book that it's going to be hard to point to any single moment as inaccurate

010

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 10/01/2026

Thinking about the Percy Jackson show has made me realize a fundamental problem with serialized television: it makes shows less rewatchable.

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 04/01/2026

Gee, it's almost as if making random changes when adapting a popular source material is going to alienate a large part of your target audience. Who'd have thunk?

For anyone curious, I just did a bit of math. The Lightning Thief movie averages out to 1.958 adaptation sins per minute. The first season of the Percy Jackson TV show averages out to 1.965 sins per minute (2.041 if I factor in the Lightning Round)

010

Phil Maxwell @optimusphillip.bsky.social · 11/12/2025

Do you think that if the writers of #PercyJackson actually watched the movies they claim to hate so much, they would know to avoid making the same mistakes?
