With the hot weather continuing, it’s a good time to think about staying hydrated – especially for people living with memory loss or dementia, who may be more at risk of dehydration. Our Dementia Care Advisors have shared some simple, practical ways to help.
An informational poster titled “Helping people with memory loss remain hydrated” by Optalis. The poster explains that people living with dementia or memory loss may forget to drink or struggle to communicate thirst, which can lead to dehydration and health issues. It provides practical tips including offering drinks little and often, leaving drinks visible and accessible, offering drinks at mealtimes, making drinking social, using suitable cups or straws, providing a variety of drinks, encouraging people to hold their drink, offering foods with high liquid content such as soup and yoghurt, and setting reminders. An illustration shows a person sitting in an armchair holding a drink with a fan nearby. Contact details for the Dementia Care Advisors team are included.
