.@emergetools.bsky.social co-founder, Josh built this cool tool called Tribute, a Claude Code skill to support your OSS dependencies. If you don't support the projects you rely on, you're running out of excuses! Check it out: github.com/jshchnz/trib...
screen shot of tweet by Josh Cohenzadeh @jschnz
Built a Claude Code skill to find the open source projects that your repo relies on and give you links to help fund them

(Screenshot)
Why Tribute?

Your project depends on open source software maintained by volunteers and small teams. These maintainers often struggle to fund their work, yet their code powers your applications.

The problem: Finding funding links for your dependencies is tedious. Package registries don't surface this information well, and manually checking each project's GitHub is time-consuming.

Tribute solves this by automatically:

Reading your dependency files
Researching funding links from FUNDING.yml files and web searches
Verifying every link actually works before showing it to you
Install

Copy the skill file to your Claude Code commands directory:

curl -o ~/.claude/commands/tribute.md \

In keeping with the theme of the report, our mission, and the season, let’s say thanks to OSS maintainers. Introducing @cranberrysoss.bsky.social, available for 13.37 while supplies last. All proceeds go straight to maintainers via thanks.dev. cranberrysoss.com
A jar of cranberry sauce labeled “Cranberry Soss” sits on a smooth surface surrounded by whole cranberries. The jar has a beige label with a red badge and an illustration of cranberries. A red button below the jar reads “Order now for $13.37.”

“In the long term, this is unsustainable for an unpaid volunteer like me. … In the long run, putting such demands on OSS maintainers without compensating them is detrimental. … It’s even more unlikely with Google Project Zero, the best white-hat security researchers money can buy, breathing down the necks of volunteers.”

Who's looking out for maintainers? @antithesis.com, that's who! Thanks for re-upping with @opensourcepledge.com 🙏 antithesis.com/blog/2025/os...
Text clipping from blog post:
At Antithesis, for instance, we rely on open source for everything from our internal Nix tooling to core components of our product like our deterministic hypervisor, a fork of FreeBSD. Maintaining these tools requires countless hours of work from talented, dedicated developers worldwide. We believe supporting this community is not only the right thing to do, it’s also a vital way of ensuring our dependencies are, well, dependable! Writing quality code takes time, money, and skill, and we believe in supporting the open source community with all of them.

A year ago, @sentry.io launched the Open Source Pledge, with one singular goal: get maintainers paid. A key pillar of the Pledge is it’s not a “pledge”, like an IOU. Rather, to join the Pledge, members come with receipts. Here’s why. 🧵

The tower (which is covered in LEDs) reads
NASDAQ CELEBRATES ONE YEAR OF THE OPEN SOURCE PLEDGE AND THE COMPANIES WHO PAY MAINTAINERS

and it's Open Source!
Fork first, ask questions later

At Sanity, we had a problem. Sanity Studio runs on styled-components. So does our UI library. Thousands of components, all dependent on a library whose own maintainer says not to use.
We had three choices:
Rewrite everything (months of work, we're actually doing this)
Accept degrading performance (not happening)
Fix it ourselves
