Research visibility isn't a meritocracy — it's an attention economy. We want to fix that. If you do too: theopenscholar.com/pilot

Research no longer lives in one place — and the cost is mounting in places research-admin leaders don't always see. OS Research Hubs + OS Match are what we've built for it. The 90-day pre-launch pilot is open: theopenscholar.com/pilot

The visibility gap inside most institutions is real but hard to measure—narrower funding pipelines, missed collaborations, opportunities that never reach the right researchers. So it gets absorbed as normal. Here's what our 90-day pilot delivers to change that. theopenscholar.com/blog/what-90...

Real outcomes. Decision-ready data. On your own researchers, across 90 days. Our CEO explains what piloting infrastructure built for modern research actually delivers. Start a pilot: theopenscholar.com/pilot

Research infrastructure should reduce those gaps. Not create them. It's time for it to evolve, too. The pilot is open. theopenscholar.com/pilot

And when costs are hard to measure, they’re easy for institutions to normalize and absorb. Collaborations that don't form. Funding pipelines that slowly narrow. Efforts that are constantly duplicated. Opportunities that never reach the right researchers. Research and talent that goes unrecognized.

The infrastructure underlying modern research didn’t break overnight. Research evolved. The systems that support it stayed the same. And the costs accumulated quietly over time, in ways that are diffuse and difficult to see.

Fit-based matching uses what today's tools can't see: a picture of each researcher's actual work. OS Hubs is the picture. OS Match fits it to the right funding. Our pilot is the window is open now. Read the essay: theopenscholar.com/blog/challen... Start a pilot: theopenscholar.com/pilot

But that’s changed. Availability has been answered. What hasn’t is fit. Availability answers whether there are active opportunities related to a given topic. Fit answers which of the thousands of opportunities is a match for what 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳 is actually doing.

Published today: Researchers don’t need more funding. They need the right funding. Discovery tools were built around the question: What funding exists? And for years, the answer to that question was scarce enough that knowing what was available was a real advantage.

Alerts flood inboxes with near-misses. Researchers spend hours filtering noise that should be fueling proposals. Non-obvious opportunities go undiscovered in the sheer volume. It's time to rethink the model. The pilot is open. theopenscholar.com/pilot

Grant alerts and funding discovery tools are answering the wrong question. They've been built around the premise: What funding exists? But that question has been answered—so well, in fact, that it has created a new problem.

Asking faculty to fix the gap by being better self-publicists just reproduces it. Infrastructure that levels visibility for every researcher is what actually works. Our 90-day pilot: 10 researchers, 450 high-confidence funding matches, $5K applies to your license. Start: theopenscholar.com/pilot

What we have isn't a meritocracy. It's an attention economy. A filter that picks up on signals having little to do with the work: ⚪ Time ⚪ Admin support ⚪ Comfort with self-promotion ⚪ Field-level norms Visibility produces visibility. Attention attracts attention.

Look at your institution's most-cited researchers. On the whole, they share something—and it isn't that their research is better. Today's essay: the attention economy underneath every institution's research presence. theopenscholar.com/blog/hidden-...

Three places the cost lands: → Faculty burden — uncompensated time as web publisher → Equity gaps — self-publishers stay visible; the rest don't → External visibility — outsiders piece together stale profiles and Google snippets

The tools institutions rely on to represent faculty have quietly fallen out of step with how research actually happens. That mismatch is no longer just an inconvenience — it's a cost. More next week.

Research doesn't live in one place anymore. Publications in PubMed. Data in Figshare. Code on GitHub. Trials in registries. A CV in a Word doc. A faculty profile three years behind. An ORCID record that might be current. A personal site from 2019.

One of the biggest challenges in research isn’t lack of data. It’s the systems around it. When knowledge is siloed and funding opportunities are scattered, impact stalls. Strong research needs strong infrastructure. Ready to rethink your systems? Let’s talk: theopenscholar.com/contact-us
