What is the leadership role of a principal today? Meet our next Principal Profile, Megan, Principal at Bridlewood Community Elementary School with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. #SchoolLeadership
Megan Skentelbery is a woman with long brown hair and blue eyes. She is wearing a purple shirt smiling at the camera. The text on the image is:

Pronouns: She/Her, Hear My Name
Principal
Bridlewood Community Elementary School
Ottawa-Carleton District School Board

What is your perspective on the leadership role of a principal today?
My leadership is driven by the belief that the school fence should be a bridge, not a barrier. A student’s success is deeply connected to the support and engagement of their home life. Through "porch-step" leadership—physically showing up in the neighborhood, leading with people first and creating welcoming, low-stakes opportunities for connection—I strive to make our school a true community hub. We don’t just educate students. We actively partner with families to support the whole child and their community.

How does identity show up in leadership? Meet our next Principal Profile, Justina, Vice-Principal at Rouge Park Public School with the Toronto District School Board. #SchoolLeadership
Justina So
Vice-principal
Rouge Park Public School
Toronto District School Board

How does your identity show up in your leadership?

As an immigrant and former English Language Learner, I saw my parents struggle to navigate a new country and understand firsthand the challenges many newcomer and marginalized families face. I use these experiences to build trusting relationships grounded in empathy and understanding and ensure all students have equitable access to high-quality programming where they feel seen, valued and included. As an East Asian leader, I hope my presence helps students, staff and families see themselves reflected in leadership, recognize that their identity is a strength.
