Browsers can absolutely add user overrides on this stuff, but anti copy/paste behavior is still written at the site/app level using normal JS/CSS APIs, not some special browser DRM

The code to block copy/paste is written at the app/site level, not browser level. There may be browsers that reject anti-copy/paste imperatives, but that would be a pretty stupid “feature” to build a browser around

No it’s not. It’s just a misguided attempt by website owners to keep their content from being stolen. Browsers render the HTML + JS in the way they are instructed, if there is a JS imperative coded into a page that blocks copy paste it will be rendered faithfully.
