I assume people who don’t like bus lanes don’t like them because they “take away a lane”. What would an Eglinton East LRT do? Not be fully underground, that’s for sure… and not get built without years of traffic disruption. Have we forgotten the recent past already?

I am apparently old enough to get targeted ads for the shingles vaccine, though, which is frustrating. Having shingles was the MOST pointlessly miserable and painful few weeks I can remember, and I’d absolutely pay out of pocket to avoid having that happen again if I could… but I still can’t.

I presume it all depends on when and where the coaches were the day before, and how long it takes to do all the others. Can only assume there is not enough capacity in the right places to get it done properly. As with other things, probably lack of staff too. Getting worse.

What I have been told is that they go out of service when the tanks are full, in other words, it’s just a matter of time. The more / longer trips a vehicle makes in a day the fewer washrooms remain in service. They need to figure out how/where to drain & refill tanks mid-day to fix this.

Palantir shifting from hiring only "Ivy or Ivy-equivalent" degrees to hiring only out of high school is an admission that "training" and "talent" were never factors at all. They were looking for packaging & prestige, and now they're looking for ignorance & impressionability.
Tech companies launching their own programs to train grads because they ‘can’t rely’ on Ivy Leagues
By Lydia Moynihan
Published Oct. 1, 2026, 6:00 a.m. ETAs the university system increasingly becomes a wildly expensive bastion of anti-Western sentiment, key figures in Silicon Valley are betting on alternatives to higher education. They argue that even the Ivy League is no longer producing the best candidates — nor are they even accepting some of the most qualified students.

“It used to be the case that you could rely on somebody who went to an Ivy or Ivy-equivalent to be top notch,” said Jordan Hirsch, who runs Palantir’s semester-long intensive Meritocracy Fellowship, which accepts high school graduates.“But that’s not the case anymore… we suspected that there was a lot of talent being missed.”

Don’t worry, there’s a dedicated and vocal 10-15% of Canadians who will claim any non-Conservative PM is a dictator. They smoothly transitioned from claiming this about Trudeau to saying the same about Carney (before he’d even begun to govern). You’ll know them by their “FUCK [CURRENT PM]” flags.

But also… “KN-95 or better masks” were certainly not “ubiquitous” even “during the heights of COVID-19”. Of these who did wear something, most wore cloth masks at first and then procedure masks as availability improved. Respirators were always rare.

My complaint has nothing to do with infrequent service (in fact there was NO service on LE yesterday, and I took the subway). There just isn’t enough platform and stairwell capacity for trains when they arrive due to the ancient trainshed layout. God forbid 2 arrive on adjacent platforms. Unsafe.

I mention this because I have been polled twice in connection with the Toronto mayoral election and there was a clear push to get me to agree a dedicated police presence in Union is necessary. It’s clear which candidate this was from. Nah, but, how about more cleaners?

Greg Smith @onshi.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Many say Union Station is “unsafe” (code for “visibly homeless people exist there” rather than “stairwells and platforms are dangerously crowded”) but wow, I passed through at 1:30pm yesterday and I think a real concern is cleaning. Overflowing bins, flies (!), filthy food court tables.

A good way to stop strikes before they begin is to actually bargain with workers in good faith. Make a deal! Employers literally have *years* to do this but now often assume that back-to-work legislation will be readily available, so why should they even bother? financialpost.com/fp-work/cana...
