Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Super Troopers 2” (2018) Doesn’t come close to the original, but it’s always a joy seeing these guys assemble on a big screen. Bonus points for actually getting Brian Cox to return for a crowdfunded dopey comedy. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Beerfest” (2006) Contains one of the funniest and most surprising “fuck you, audience” twists in modern mainstream comedy. I think we spoiled it on the podcast but if not, go in blind. Trust me on this one. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Club Dread” (2004) Broken Lizard takes a swing and makes a horror/comedy hybrid. Does it entirely work? Naturally, no, but they could have rested on their laurels instead, and that gets really boring really quickly. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “The Fisher King” (1991) Terry Gilliam’s least manic and therefore most commercial effort, essentially Howard Stern’s redemptive dark night of the soul. Add a sensational Robin Williams and an Academy Award winning Mercedes Ruehl and you have something special. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Brazil” (1985) My personal favorite Terry Gilliam film, a beautifully-rendered lucid dream with meticulous detail occupying every square inch of the screen. Something amazing happens every minute, so naturally Universal decided to recut its theatrical release. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Time Bandits” (1981) A young boy is dragged across time and space by a bunch of dwarf pirates, encountering John Cleese as Robin Hood and lounging on the Titanic during the iceberg. Overflowing with imagination and visual panache. #FilmSky

I’m starting to plan 2027, so if you have something to promote and you’d like to discuss the audio commentary for any of these titles, let me know. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Back to the Future Part III” (1990) The fourth act of “Back to the Future Part II”, this opens with the first use of my favorite studio logo (the Universal globe with an astonishing theme, used until 1997). It’s also my mom’s favorite installment of the trilogy. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Red River” (1948) I’m not man enough to participate in a cattle drive, so I’ll take it on faith that Howard Hawks got it right. *SHAMELESS PLUG* The Criterion disc package may seem a little thick, and that’s because it contains the book the film was based on. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Stagecoach” (1939) Yes, John Wayne gets the most iconic introduction in American cinema, during the greatest year for movies (a feat that would be unbeatable for 60 years), but it’s all about stuntman Yakima Canutt, who somehow survived the production. #FilmSky

This week we’re joined once again by the great Rachel Bellwoar for a discussion of the audio commentary for Robert Altman’s best film (I won’t hear otherwise), the 1971 revisionist western “McCabe & Mrs. Miller”! #FilmSky podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/o... www.spreaker.com/podcast/one-...

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Pinocchio” (2022) Stop-motion animation is the pinnacle of cinema. Everything must be manipulated by hand, single shots could take months. God bless Guillermo del Toro for pushing the medium forward and encouraging his peers to do the same. #FilmSky

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “The Shape of Water” (2017) Clearly a young Guillermo del Toro saw “Creature from the Black Lagoon” and thought ‘this better not awaken something in me’. It did. And he added a musical number. #FilmSky

One Track Mind with Ryan Luis Rodriguez @onetrackmind.bsky.social · 24/08/2026

Ryan’s Recommendation(s): “Cronos” (1993) I like to look at it as a spin on “Hellraiser” with a golden scarab instead of the Lament Configuration but really it’s just a tenuously related and promising debut effort from a future master. #FilmSky
