We believe we've found the first images of the upcoming Uptown redevelopment. Looks to be a attempt to go high end, with significant construction work on the Mall likely in order (the 1987/88 new-build facades (Myer entrance, and between the York Hotel and Newspaper House facades going)

This study unfortunately never examined a Queensland politician at this time of year however. The Queensland political class's vision on daylight saving is stuck in 1992: the same year the mother of the house was first elected in Maroochydore, and 10 years before it's youngest MP was born. #qldpol

A very interesting point from this morning's Courier-Mail (page 6). So, ANZ is about to kill the Suncorp Bank brand in July next year... except it's actually killing the last semblances of what was once Metway Bank.

Will be interesting to see if BCC gets the publicity for the Council Cabs 25th anniversary, that it couldn't get when it was announced (back when Soorley was LM/Maureen Hayes transport head) in 2001. Launch date is a giveaway clue.

A reminder: The 1996 QLD cabinet papers release can't come fast enough. The first inklings of a BOOT Brisbane Airport rail link that were made when Rob Borbidge was running a minority govt. post Mundingburra, that was hanging on by the smallest margins, will all be out in the open in just 158 days.

Maybe that's why the Movie World hotel has been stalled, despite being approved by the GCCC without government interference: because VRTP realises... like the rest of us: that a theme park hotel on the northern GC needs a viable connection to the Gold Coast airport that doesn't rely on the M1.

Now figure out how long it currently takes to get by public transport from OOL to Coomera, once the M1 is choked with shuttle buses. Kinda need that multi-modal option for OOL... before the airport's owners campaign for a border redraw to join NSW: and get the transport infrastructure they need.

All three requirements that the latest QLD state redistribution suggested can be solved by the simplest of political actions: A shrinking of the QLD Legislative Assembly to fit in a upper house that is built on similar lines to WA/Victoria: without the group ticket malaise that exists in Victoria.

We have highlighted two initatives from the draft document. The second is a gigantic message to the QLD Government. NSW views the GC Airport as a trip generator, and will ultimately be endorsed in NSW transport planning from later this year. QLD needs to view it with the same zeal. #qldpol
Initiative 1: NSW North Coast line improvements: explicitly referencing Queensland.Initiative 2: Cross-border transport access and service integration: most notably seeing the GC Airport, Southern Cross University (Coolangatta Campus is on GC Airport land) and John Flynn Private Hospital (Tugun, near the Varsity Lakes-GC Airport heavy rail reservation) are explicitly mentioned.
