I get this feeling completely. I do still code by hand in my free time and enjoy it but I can see why it’s ruined for some. I’m more or less forced to use genAI at work and I’m honestly still of the opinion it’s not that good at it even with frontier models. The bigger the project the worse it gets

Insurance covers 70% of the bill, it’s not free. Basic insurance also doesn’t have broad coverage. I’m paying out of pocket for some meds I need. It’s pretty cheap in general though. Way better than the US but I wouldn’t call it good

I was in china during the height of the pandemic and after the two or three months of actual lockdown, everything reopened for any (later vaxxed) person who tested negative in the past week or so. Until like 2023 I didn’t know a single person in the mainland who had covid. Shanghai was an outlier.

I immigrated to China without prior connections. I can only stay because I ended up marrying a local though I lived here for years before I did. You can also start a business and hire yourself but I believe you can’t do this past retirement age. It honestly sucks because this country is great
