Sadly, the name "50 Cent Taco" has lost its meaning over time; before inflation, it meant the equivalent of "Ten Dollar Taco." It's like how, a millennium ago, a peasant could buy an acre of land for a sliver of a penny, but a "Millicent" is practically worthless now.

The Queen points and says "Look! It's" but then instead of saying "Boss Cat!" as per the running gag, it's been sloppily edited to say "the joke about Marvel".

From "The Bizarro Jerry," the "Seinfeld" episode where Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) finds out about Bizarro when she describes to Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld) her new friend, who's Jerry's exact opposite. Jerry is delighted to discover the Bizarro Jerry: "Like Bizarro Superman. Superman's exact opposite, who lives in the backwards Bizarro world. Up is Down. Down is up. He says 'Hello' when he leaves, 'Good bye' when he arrives." That leads to a back-and-forth that I've condensed into just Elaine's questions so I could make this silly meme work:

Elaine: "Shouldn't Bizarro say 'Bad bye'? Isn't that the opposite of 'Good bye'? Does he live underwater? Is he Black?"

I know a guy who argues that most reporting is biased because it doesn't provide context, which SOUNDS neutral enough! But the "context" is always, like, "Don't say 'gas prices are high' without saying 'but they would be even higher if Trump hadn't stopped Iran from blowing up major U.S. cities.'"

Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), in a scene from "Parks and Recreation," building a crib with Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe). Chris tries to find the deeper meaning in Ron throwing away a piece of wood, and Ron tells him there IS no deeper meaning -- it was unstable wood, and Ron is a craftsman, not a teacher. Chris: "No, I know you're not CONSCIOUSLY teaching me anything! I'm trying to siphon off some of your calm, centered wisdom through metaphors." That leads to the meme:

Ron: "Metaphors? I hate metaphors. That's why my favorite book is Moby Dick. No froufrou symbolism, just a good simple tale about a man who hates an animal."

“Work until you die”? That’s quitter talk. SOME of us are planning on working into our 90s and then for another 3-4 weeks AFTER we die. Now, I haven’t figured out the details yet, but once my expenses drop to zero? That’s pure PROFIT, baby!

I promise this is a true thing: The villain in "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" wanted to use the Blue Diamond to devolve humans into monkeys. In the film's original ending, he's defeated when Tweety is devolved into a dinosaur and devours him. ...anyway, "Tweety kills the bad guy" was rejected

Watching "Pac-Man" reruns on MeTV Toons made me realize that Hanna-Barbera took a concept that was tailor-made for Super Meddlers (guy in a maze has to outwit monsters), and they turned it into a Twist Family (Pac-Man has a wife, a baby, two pets, a day job and middle-aged-man interests).
A screenshot from the "Pac-Man" episode "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Pac-Man." Pac-Man, wearing a golfing hat instead of his usual fedora, is practicing his putting game in his house, with his dog and cat next to him. A photo on the wall shows the pets, as well as Pac-Baby.

It's the 1970s-style intro to "WandaVision," with the Brady Bunch-esque squares (except they're hexagons, or "hexes", the running theme of the various intros). We see (top, from left) Wanda and human vision walking together; Wanda kissing android Vision; human Vision and Wanda at home; (center, from left) a close-up on Wanda; a fake hexagon with the Popsicle/Creamsicle ad, the whole reason I'm posting this nonsense; Wanda and android Vision dancing together; (bottom, from left) human Vision and Wanda at Westview's downtown gazebo; android Vision in the backyard; Wanda looking happy about life.

A panel from "Peanuts," Oct. 4, 1964. Charlie Brown is running at breakneck speed, clutching a piece of paper in his hand: "I guess if you have a signed document in your possession, you can't go wrong ... this year I'm really going to kick that football!"

(See, it's the strip that ends with Charlie Brown flat on his back, and the paper, given to him by Lucy, flutters back down to Lucy. She rereads it and says, "Peculiar thing about this document ... it was never notarized!"

I went looking through the newspaper archives, and I found this from October 1948. What even WAS Seattle 78 years ago?
Seattle Censor Bans the Murder Thriller "Rope"

SEATTLE, Oct. 19, 1948 (AP) -- Seattle's theater censor board today banned further showing of the murder thriller "Rope."

The action came as the motion picture ended a two-week run and was to be shifted to a second theater.

Chairman Bernard Reiter said the board banned the picture after receiving "a number of complaints." He said the principal objections were that it was not apparent enough the guilty are punished for their crime and it does not seem a proper picture "for children and for impressionable adults."

Alfred Hitchcock directed the Warner Brothers picture, which stars James Stewart. Movie critics here said it was the first reported censorship of the film.

I seem to recall a BUNCH of these Nixon/Kennedy tweets Back In The Day, but this is the one that somehow became load-bearing for my psyche.
A Sept. 11, 2023 tweet from Jamison Webb, @jamisonwebb:

MODERATOR: do you have a favorite Halloween monster?

NIXON: (sweaty) Well, there are certainly ... vampires and mummies (coughs) but nothing has chilled me more than the tales I heard in my youth of the belled buzzard and its ominous death-tinkle

JFK: I er uh go gaga for goblins

I trust Hee Haw anchorman Charlie Farquharson more than any of the 60 Minutes guys, in part because I love his joke (adapted for today's prices): A new report says eggs this year are $2 a dozen, compared to $3 a dozen for last year's eggs. I say that's way too much to pay for year-old eggs.

3. Stephen Dorff and Matthew Perry, then ages 15 and 19, played the same boy at different ages in "Empty Nest"'s first-season finale, "A Life In The Day." Nobody would confuse the two as adults, but looking at them side-by-side, you can see what the people who cast that episode were going for.
A quick combination image of Stephen Dorff (left) and Matthew Perry that I made back in 2018 for a Facebook post about the "Empty Nest" episode "A Life In The Day," where they play "Billy" as a young teen and as a recent high school graduate headed to college, respectively.

Three quick "Empty Nest" things: 1. The early episode "Harry's Vacation" was even funnier when "Don't Worry, Be Happy" really DID seem to be inescapable. 2. Nurse Laverne Todd (Park Overall) going from "Arkansas hick" to "brash and bossy" is one of TV's all-time great course corrections.

I've never gotten over 2008's "DC Universe: Decisions," which not only cast Lois Lane as a Republican, but also made her into someone aggravated by the idea that Clark Kent might be voting for Democrats.
"DC Universe: Decisions," from 2008, written by Bill Willingham and Judd Winick, with art by Rick Leonardi and Howard Porter. Clark Kent is sitting down to read the paper, and Lois is looking over his shoulder.

Lois: "What can I say? I'm a product of my upbringing. I'm proudly for a strong military, small government, low taxes, and maximum individual freedom."

Clark: "And I'm proudly for the time-honored tradition of the secret ballot."

Lois: "For once I just want to know if your vote is canceling out mine. Please?"

Clark: "Sorry, Lois."

It's a cheap way to give status to a performer who's not the actual star. In the case of Tom Bosley, he was a Tony Award-winning actor who played the father on a family sitcom, yet WASN'T the top-billed actor (a very rare situation in those days). So he got the extra credits to show his importance.
