Originally, I was going to make footprint stencils for us to use to make colorful footprints scattered along the walk up, but I forgot. I love the raven prints so much more! Because as much as I would have loved to make chalky doodles along the entire path the students will walk this morning, 0.9 miles meant getting up and down way too many times to pull that off, and I need to be able to walk today. Amazing Helper drew the raven 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026All I could come up with was “Happy Walk to School Day!” and that didn’t feel like enough. Her suggestion also reminded me of how we used to make happy chalk doodles all along the path home for our kids to find on their last days of school when they were walkers. I had to settle for it being only 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I put out an SOS post on facebook last week when I couldn't come up with an idea for their Walk to School Day drawing, and thankfully several people jumped in to share ideas! The wording came from Michelle G., and it’s like what I was trying to come up with myself, but couldn’t. At Ravenwood 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I know I keep using this one, but I haven't found a better way to talk about working together. It has to be together; we have to be WE. I played with colors streaking through the letters in a different way, at least. At Oak Park I'm hoping it will still be there for the community roundtable. 000
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I’m having trouble feeling creative, so we used a previous drawing idea. At Oak Park 010
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026A bonus to going to the Family Service Night is getting to see one of our amazing teachers who taught both my kiddos in Kindergarten back at Meadowbrook. I couldn't get all of the hearts in the picture. 000
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026We were invited back to Northview's Family Service Night to help chalk the blacktop with kindness. I love this night and was so happy the weather cooperated for it this year. I love seeing all of the drawings the students make to encourage each other. At Northview Elementary 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Amazing Helper is attending LitUp, so I took advantage of being there to make the drawing. I appreciate MCPL for holding events like LitUp for our kids. 001
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Thank you to Peter H. Reynolds for writing such beautiful and encouraging books. Not making the drawing or making a drawing that's washed off before anyone sees it?" I answered, "Not making the drawing and it doesn't rain." My kid didn't hesitate and said, "Let me get my shoes on." 000
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 14/09/2026isn't sideways rain, the drawings should hopefully last through Tuesday. After we got back from the first two drawings and had lunch, I went back and forth on whether to go back out, and my kiddo saw that I was getting antsy again. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Four drawings in a day, and my legs and back are done, but I love Dot Day so much that I couldn't let it go without making a drawing at every school someone commented with. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 13/09/2026My husband teased me about picking two schools on the opposite ends of the district to draw at today (they were ones that had staff volunteer it for a Dot Day drawing), but I'm wondering about asking the Liberty school across the street about making a drawing there when we go back to clean it off. 000
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Our last drawing here was a Dot Day drawing, and we could still make out the remains of "mark" from last year. Fitting, but an oops. I'll be swinging by here at some point to clean this off. At Rising Hill Elementary` 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I think the last drawing we made here may have also been a Dot Day drawing. Making drawings for Crestview while they were being hosted here makes it hard to remember. At Davidson Elementary 001
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 09/09/2026We were in District 5 until the new map put us in 6. New map or old map, we will work to elect someone with an actual platform. Not anyone who thinks posting on social media for clicks or going on podcasts to rile people up is the job. The lines and names may change, but the goals remain the same. 011
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 27/08/2026I spent way too long trying to figure out which way it should be oriented. I usually make the drawings while facing the entrance, but the sidewalks all lead up to the doors from the left. We rotated it so it's readable as people walk up, but it sure felt weird making it that way. 000
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 27/08/2026This is for the Community Resource Fair tomorrow, and it's the last of the chalk drawing requests. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I had every intention of keeping it small since it was just me coloring it in, but that didn’t exactly happen, so it became a speed drawing. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 25/08/2026We dropped Amazing Helper off for the Senior BBQ and went around to the front so I could make a chalk drawing. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Continued our tradition of refreshing the clasped hands before the first day of school--later than we've ever done it before, but we got it done today. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Thank you so much to NKC Schools for allowing us to show our appreciation for NKC Staff today, and to NKC Schools Education Foundation for thinking of us and helping make this happen. 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Each year, I have wished we could make a chalk drawing to welcome all NKC Schools staff back to a new school year, but there are far too many schools and locations. One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 18/08/2026P.S. I fully acknowledge that stick figures are harder to draw than they sound. And I will stick to chalk. (5/5) 000
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 18/08/2026... I know you’re all busy and want things to look nice (and some don’t feel artistic), but stick figures or clip art would be better for kids who are against generative AI. I know teachers don't want to lose their students’ trust in any way, so it would be sad to lose it because of this. (4/5) 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 18/08/2026... it could undermine their trust—not only in the importance of the assignment, but in you as a teacher. I’m not saying that’s a fair judgement on their part, but I’ve seen how my kids view classmates who use it in their writing, and I don’t think teachers would be exempt from that judgement. (3/5) 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 18/08/2026... They’ve seen how lazy classmates have become when they use it, and they hate that it has an environmental impact. Teachers/schools, you should know that some of your students have very strong anti-generative AI feelings, so if you use AI “art” in assignment write-ups or in the classroom, (2/5) 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 18/08/2026I saw a post in a Facebook group about generative AI a month or so ago, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to share thoughts since. I still don’t know the right words, but school is about to start, so here goes… My kids, and many of their friends, are adamantly against generative AI. (1/5) 100
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Today marks 6 years of reimagining the Antioch clasped hands chalk drawing. It's the only drawing we've redone (reused ideas have been in different locations). I like seeing all the different versions of it together as I brainstorm what to make to greet students for the new school year. 021
One Chalk Army @onechalkarmy.bsky.social · 09/08/2026We tried to get out before the heat warning and sort of made it.
