Also looking at a hybrid currant called 'Viking' which is said to be "virtually immune" according to One Green World.

So, Lily, it has been a while since you posted anything here about currants. What's new? Any new recs for currants resistant to White Pine Blister Rust? I'm looking at Ribes odoratum 'Crandall' for it's beauty, and also because it seems to have quite a bit of tolerance for poor soil and heat.

Talk about the difference your congregation made in your community this year. Tell them why you are excited to be part of the ministry (or ministries) you are involved in. Be authentic. Make it personal. Just be you. You got this.

Other than being tricky to transplant, I see no reason that Common Milkweed wouldn't thrive for you once established. It can take years to establish though. Patience!

Swamp is a robust grower, but a short lived plant, especially if you have milkweed weevils. If you do get weevils, keep the soil around the plant very swamp-like.

Butterfly Weed has good years and bad. It does not like it's feet wet and the young ones can be badly damaged by aphids unless they are protected until they are old enough to shrug them off. Also it does not like a lot of mulch around it's roots.

Wait, I haven't noticed a difference on my phone app. Maybe I'm missing something. Where do I make this choice?

Thomas Jefferson's favorite tree. I love my fringe trees. I was lucky enough to get a male and a female many years ago. Sadly, they are now infested with emerald ash borers.

Can't wait for ours to flower so we can see what they are. We planted 3. Crossing our fingers to have both male and female.

I can't walk across the lawn right now because this is happening everywhere. Cicada's can be troublesome to newly planted or small woody plants, but they are also beneficial to the ecosystem in numerous ways. Read the surprising list of good things cicadas do here: cicadas.wisc.edu/good-or-bad/ 🪲🪳

May 20 is World Bee Day! To celebrate I am posting an Eastern Carpenter Bee photo-bombing my shot of Blue Wild Indigo (Baptisia australis) in our native food forest. Baptisia is one of the few deer resistant nitrogen fixers in Ohio and we love it! #Insects #NativePlants #Permaculture 🐝

I know, right? I was so rough on it, and I came back the next day expecting to find it severely wilted or worse. But there it was just happy and perky and enjoying it's new haircut.

Just need to say the sign isn't quite complete, and a second board will read "AND RAIN GARDEN."

I looked at putting QR codes on the plant labels for the food forest. Found several sticker options on Etsy. Didn't like using plastic, and wondered how they would hold up, so decided instead to put a metal QR code on the food forest sign which leads to website with plant lists, layouts, and more.
The wooden sign at Christ the King Lutheran Church which reads "Native Food Forest." QR code on the sign leads to webpage about the food forest here https://www.ctkluth.org/food-forest.html
