"Who was your first anime crush?" Mine is Kanako Urashima from Love Hina, the autistic-coded Elegant Gothic Lolita fashionista mistress of disguise with a talking black cat-rabbit prone to have her staunch ideals escalate into pitched battles with neurotypicals. Only Kanako could understand me.
The cover of Love Hina vol. 11 by Ken Akamatsu. Kanako Urashima stands in the foreground of a Japanese garden filled with cherry blossoms while Kanako waters lillies irrigated in the floodplane beneath a picturesque waterfall. The scene is an allegory of Kanako's plans to restore the Hinata Inn to its former glory, destroying what it had become in the metaphoric flood. Kanako forms a striking contrast in the foreground with her Elegant Gothic Lolita clothing in black, white, and red. Relegated to the backround is the Victorianized students who had benefitted from cheap rents in the derelict hotel, now risking eviction if a compromise isn't struck. Between them stands Naru Narusegawa in Sweet Lolita clothing in frou-frou pink and black as she acts as a mediator between these polarized factions. But in Kanako's vision, most everyone holds tea cups symbolizing the elegant way of life promoted by her version of the Hinata Inn.

This cover art for the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack has more of the vibe of how Cloud was conceived and envisioned; an androgynous dark knight he would be seen as a fair-featured beauty whether a man or a woman.

Distracted to what end? As Khaled Akil's 2016 photography series "Pokemon Go in Syria" underscored, Pokemon's capacity for distraction has tended to leave the world more like a moonscape. Though a science-fantasy political reading of Pokemon in the age of genetic biotechnology is indeed possible.
Khalad Akil's photograph of a boy treading the ruined streets of Aleppo in Syria while the ordinarily cheerful Pikachu looks dejected sitting behind him while surveying the damage.

Post something Random, or you'll have an AWFUL March! Comments: I get good results with Sichuan pepper flakes, and use more of them for a feisty spicy kick. No more than a pinch well-distributed.
From Masahiro Ito, character designer of Pyramid Head from Silent Hill.

"Honey buter honey toast aka Fuck Toast, this is the recipe.
The road to fuck - Honey butter honey toast ^_^
1. Sprinkle Sichuan Pepper powder on it. 2. Spread honey onit and put the bread in the toaster oven. 3. After baking, spread butter and little of honey. 4. Sprinkle the pepper powder again."

What's MAGA about the console? If anything, the Genesis/Mega Drive succeeded because it appealed to those who wanted a different emerging 1990s sensibility from the Reagan/Bush 1980s, and felt infantilized by Nintendo's policies pandering to the Focus on the Family types of authoritarian parents.
"SEGA FOR THE 90's: THE NEW GENERATION' declares the erupting graffiti headline of the Premiere Issue of Sega Visions in 1990, surrounded by icons of the MTV Generation and American pop culture, Japanese arcade hits of the System-16 board with accurate home console ports like never before, and a heady RPG exploring themes of genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and planetary terraforming. This is a console for cool teens and young adults.

His statement was broader than artificial intelligence, namely those who say that art isn't worth anything. Such attitudes can also be seen for example in contempt for arts, literature, cinema, and I daresay even game studies programs in education compared with STEM and the economic Mammon Machines.

It's questionable how innovative it was compared to other first-person shooters of the 1990s. But like other Rare releases on Nintendo consoles, it found workarounds to break through Nintendo's family values pearl clutching to give their players the kinds of games they wanted. There was even blood.
James Bond shoots the subliminally vaginal aperture of a camera or sniper scope from the viewer's first-person perspective, upon which their blood streams down in a kind of visual pun on ejaculation. This recurring shot at the beginning of James Bond films became the basis for death screens in Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64, functionally introducing blood on one side of the screen that was not allowed on the other. Which was of course a vibe in multiplayer deathmatches.

As for the Torment Nexus, it's a meme about tech companies and entrepreneurs basing technologies off dystopian science fiction as eagerly as utopian science fiction. Techno-optimism can reinforce the sense doing so won't go horribly wrong, or at least the tech company is shielded from consequences.

Obscurity, danger, and mystery. A shadowy landscape, an erupting volcano, a femme fatale or homme fatale, a carnivorous animal or plant. I tend to believe this photo I took of a museum diorama with a leopard feeding at dusk exemplifies the sublime in aesthetics.

Good as this cover looks, it has nothing on the original 1970s art nouveau cover. It just goes to show what we've lost in this new minimalist book cover paradigm compared to the more psychedelic book covers of the 1960s and 70s.
