If the pandemic hadn’t happened, we’d still be the host house, although still pared down some. I don’t identify with the idea that living with children means the home is always a nightmare. We hosted tons of gatherings when we had kids at home. Lots of potlucks, lots of informal plates in hands.

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

Okay Maine. Why is it always so difficult to find and acquire campaign signs? It doesn’t help that everything is at least a half hour drive away or that the democrat offices are only open a few hours a week. #Maine

Obviously my kids’ upbringing was different from most of their early Gen Z peers because they were unschooled, and it’s so interesting to see how this informs their adulthood. They had so much freedom and independence (interdependence, because we supported them), and I think they notice it, too.

I’m so sad that my new shampoo and conditioner that is supposed to smell like apples instead smells putrid. I’m kind of a super smeller anyway, and particularly with fruit scents. (That time Alex attempted to make quince jam and I insisted he throw it out because the smell was rancid.)

Facebook is a hot mess of garbage that I only still have for very stupid reasons, but every so often it serves up something beautiful. I will probably never be anywhere near this coffee shop, but if I were, I would throw money at them
A facebook post from Caffe Lucca - which appears to be in Halifax - that reads "We don't use AI for anything, but we don't want to be left behind with so many restaurants churning out slick flyers. Here's our best made-by-humans approximation." The image shows a white person with short hair holding three paper coffee cups in about four hands. The fingers are all weird and the images have been pasted together badly. Down the left side of the image, a series of paper coffee cup sleeves have been written on. They say "coffee!" and "hurry!" and "cud" among other somewhat random and repetitive words.

As of today, the CDC has changed (reverted) their Covid guidance to make the vaccine recommended for all people over 18. In addition to being a smart public health move, this recommendation also means insurance must cover it. Read more here: www.cdc.gov/covid/hcp/va... Listen to a breakdown here:

The “unspoken rules” I think people are discussing is what we used to call etiquette, which can be rigid, sure, but it can also be equalizing and allow for some social lubricant, because we can learn the etiquette beforehand. “In this type of setting it’s expected that we arrive on time”, etc.

The other thing I haven’t seen in the coffee at an interview discussion is that coffee smells. It doesn’t smell great when you drink it and now you’re speaking to a potential employer with coffee breath.

We attended the Common Ground Country Fair yesterday for the first time since 2019, and with the newlyweds and their good friend. My scooter made it possible but it was still *a lot*. Today is a rest day. Heiwa’s tofu sticks were the best thing we ate there, aside from our PieCones. #Maine #CGCF
