But I agree that in trunk-based projects, msgs serve a greater benefit for auditing and quick scanning of recent changes. 110

They're useful only when reverting a commit (given it's sufficiently isolated). A few keywords give enough clarity. Otherwise, it's just noise. The code is the ultimate truth. 110
